ನಮೋವಾಕಂ ಬ್ರೂಮೋ ನಯನ-ರಮಣೀಯಾಯ ಪದಯೋ-
ಸ್ತವಾಸ್ಮೈ ದ್ವಂದ್ವಾಯ ಸ್ಫುಟರುಚಿರಸಾಲಕ್ತಕವತೇ ।
ಅಸೂಯತ್ಯತ್ಯಂತಂ ಯದಭಿಹನನಾಯ ಸ್ಪೃಹಯತೇ
ಪಶೂನಾಮೀಶಾನಃ ಪ್ರಮದವನಕಂಕೇಲಿತರವೇ ॥ 85 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
नमोवाकं ब्रूमो नयनरमणीयाय पदयो
स्तवास्मै द्वन्द्वाय स्फुटरुचिरसालक्तकवते ।
असूयत्यत्यन्तं यदभिहननाय स्पृहयते
पशूनामीशानः प्रमदवनकङ्केलितरवे ॥ 85 ॥

stavāsmai dvandvāya sphuṭarucirasālaktakavate |
asūyatyatyantaṃ yadabhihananāya spṛhayate

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ನಮೋವಾಕಂ ಬ್ರೂಮಃ (नमोवाकं ब्रूमः, namovākaṃ brūmaḥ) = ನಮಸ್ಕಾರದ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇವೆ (we offer our salutation)
- ನಯನರಮಣೀಯಾಯ (नयनरमणीयाय, nayanaramaṇīyāya) = ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಹಬ್ಬವಾದ (a delight to the eyes)
- ಪದಯೋಃ (पदयोः, padayoḥ) = ಪಾದಗಳ (of the feet)
- ತವ ಅಸ್ಮೈ ದ್ವಂದ್ವಾಯ (तव अस्मै द्वन्द्वाय, tava asmai dvandvāya) = ನಿನ್ನ ಈ ಜೋಡಿಗೆ (to this pair of yours)
- ಸ್ಫುಟರುಚಿರಸಾಲಕ್ತಕವತೇ (स्फुटरुचिरसालक्तकवते, sphuṭarucirasālaktakavate) = ಹೊಳೆಯುವ ಅರಗಿನ ರಸ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ (bright with liquid lac)
- ಅಸೂಯತಿ (असूयति, asūyati) = ಅಸೂಯೆಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (is jealous)
- ಅತ್ಯಂತಂ (अत्यन्तं, atyantaṃ) = ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ (greatly)
- ಯತ್ ಅಭಿಹನನಾಯ (यत् अभिहननाय, yat abhihananāya) = ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಒದೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು (to be struck by them)

- ಪಶೂನಾಂ ಈಶಾನಃ (पशूनाम् ईशानः, paśūnām īśānaḥ) = ಪಶುಪತಿ ಶಿವ (Shiva, lord of beings)
- ಪ್ರಮದವನಕಂಕೇಲಿತರವೇ (प्रमदवनकङ्केलितरवे, pramadavanakaṅkelitarave) = ಅಂತಃಪುರದ ಉದ್ಯಾನದ ಅಶೋಕ ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ (of the ashoka tree in the pleasure garden)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹೊಳೆಯುವ ಅರಗಿನ ರಸ ಹಚ್ಚಿದ, ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಹಬ್ಬವಾದ ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾದಗಳ ಜೋಡಿಗೆ ನಾವು ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಅಶೋಕ ಮರ ಹೂಬಿಡಲು ಸುಂದರಿಯ ಪಾದದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಶ ಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನ ಉದ್ಯಾನದ ಅಶೋಕ ಮರವೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾದಗಳ ಒದೆತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದೇ ಒದೆತವನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ ಪಶುಪತಿ ಶಿವ ಆ ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಹಳ ಅಸೂಯೆಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
We bow to the pair of your feet, a delight to the eyes and bright with liquid lac. The ashoka tree is said to flower only at the touch of a lovely woman’s foot, so the ashoka in your pleasure garden longs to be struck by your feet. Shiva, lord of all beings, longs for the same, and so he is fiercely jealous of that tree.
