ಮಮೈವಾಂಶೋ ಜೀವಲೋಕೇ ಜೀವಭೂತಃ ಸನಾತನಃ।
ಮನಃಷಷ್ಠಾನೀಂದ್ರಿಯಾಣಿ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಸ್ಥಾನಿ ಕರ್ಷತಿ ॥ 7 ॥

ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूतः सनातनः।
मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति ॥ 7 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಮಮ ಏವ ಅಂಶಃ ಸನಾತನಃ (मम एव अंशः सनातनः, mama eva aṃśaḥ sanātanaḥ) = ನನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಸನಾತನ ಅಂಶ (an eternal fragment of me alone)
- ಜೀವಲೋಕೇ ಜೀವಭೂತಃ (जीवलोके जीवभूतः, jīvaloke jīvabhūtaḥ) = ಜೀವಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವನಾಗಿ (having become the jiva in the world of living beings)
- ಮನಃಷಷ್ಠಾನಿ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಾಣಿ (मनःषष्ठानि इन्द्रियाणि, manaḥṣaṣṭhāni indriyāṇi) = ಮನಸ್ಸೇ ಆರನೆಯದಾದ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳನ್ನು (the senses, with the mind as the sixth)
- ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಸ್ಥಾನಿ ಕರ್ಷತಿ (प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति, prakṛtisthāni karṣati) = ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವವನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ (abiding in prakriti, it draws to itself)

ನನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ಸನಾತನ ಅಂಶ ಜೀವಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವನಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ, ಮನಸ್ಸೇ ಆರನೆಯದಾದ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
An eternal fragment of me alone, having become the jiva in the world of living beings, draws to itself the senses, with the mind as the sixth, which abide in prakriti.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 15.7ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 15.7
‘ಮಮೈವಾಂಶಃ’, ನನ್ನದೇ ಅಂಶ. ಈ ಮಾತು ಗೀತೆಯ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಚರ್ಚಿತ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಅಂಶ’ ನಿಜವಾದ ತುಂಡಲ್ಲ, ಉಪಾಧಿಯಿಂದ ತೋರುವ ಭಾಗ: ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಸೂರ್ಯ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ‘ಅಂಶ’, ನೀರು ಹೋದಾಗ ಅದು ಸೂರ್ಯನೇ. ಮಡಕೆಯ ಆಕಾಶ ಆಕಾಶದ ‘ಅಂಶ’, ಮಡಕೆ ಒಡೆದಾಗ ಆಕಾಶವೇ. ಅಂಗರಹಿತ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನಿಗೆ ನಿಜವಾದ ಅಂಶಗಳಿರಲಾರವು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಸಂದೇಹದ ಉತ್ತರ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಗಾಢ ನಿದ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ಸೇರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದಾದರೆ ಸಂಸಾರಿ ಯಾರು? ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಜೀವನೇ ಸಂಸಾರಿ.
‘Mamaivamshah’, a fragment of me. This is among the most debated sentences of the Gita. For Shankara the ‘fragment’ is not a real piece but a part that appears through an adjunct: the sun seen in water is a ‘fragment’ of the sun, and when the water is gone it is the sun itself. The space in a pot is a ‘fragment’ of space, and when the pot breaks it is space itself. The partless supreme Self cannot have real parts, he says. Sridhara Swami calls this the answer to a doubt: if all reach him in deep sleep, who is the one in samsara? The jiva who draws the senses to itself is the one in samsara.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಅಂಶ’ ನಿಜವಾದ, ಸನಾತನವಾದ ಅಂಶ, ಭಗವಂತನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ. ಅಂಥ ಅಂಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ಅನಾದಿ ಕರ್ಮರೂಪದ ಅವಿದ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ವರೂಪ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಹೋಗಿ ದೇವ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮೊದಲಾದ ದೇಹಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳನ್ನು ಎಳೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಕೆಲವರು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಭೇದಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತೀರ್ಪು ಕೊಡುವುದು ಈ ಪುಟದ ಕೆಲಸವಲ್ಲ.
For Ramanuja the ‘fragment’ is a real and eternal part, a mode of the Lord. Of such parts some, their nature covered by the ignorance that is beginningless karma, draw the senses in bodies of gods, humans and the rest, while some are freed and abide in their own form. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text. It is not the work of this page to judge between these differences.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
‘ಮನಃಷಷ್ಠಾನಿ’, ಮನಸ್ಸೂ ಒಂದು ಇಂದ್ರಿಯ. ಕಣ್ಣು ಕಿವಿಗಳಂತೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೂ ಆರೈಕೆ ಬೇಕು, ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಕಾಯಿಲೆಯೂ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
‘Manahshashthani’, the mind too is a sense. Like the eyes and ears, the mind needs care, it tires, and it can fall ill.
ಯಾವ ಅರ್ಥ ಹಿಡಿದರೂ ಒಂದು ಮಾತು ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ: ಪ್ರತಿ ಜೀವವೂ ಭಗವಂತನದೇ ಅಂಶ. ಆ ನೆನಪು ನಮ್ಮ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಕೀಳರಿಮೆಯನ್ನೂ ಇತರರ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರವನ್ನೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.
Whichever reading we follow, one thing remains: every life is a fragment of the Lord himself. That reminder lessens both our low opinion of ourselves and our contempt for others.
