Context and commentary on verse 15.9
Shankara unfolds this simply: presiding over the mind along with each sense, dwelling in the body, he enjoys objects such as sound. Ramanuja gives the sense of ‘adhishthaya’: making the senses work towards their objects. Sridhara Swami calls the ear and the rest the outer senses, and the mind the inner organ.
Madhva reads this too as about the Lord: he too enjoys through the senses, as the shruti says, ‘those who sing on the vina sing of him’. But he enjoys only the good, as in the Brihadaranyaka’s (1.5.20) ‘no evil reaches the gods’. It is not the work of this page to judge between these differences.

The five senses and the mind are the doors of our contact with the world. Seeing the joy they give as a gift of the Lord grows gratitude.
A sudden loss of smell or taste may be a sign of an infection or a nerve problem. It is good not to ignore changes in the senses and to tell a doctor.
