ಹಸುವನ್ನು ತಾಯಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಒಂದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು. ಹಸುಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆಯೂ ಸುತ್ತುವರಿದಿರಲಿ ಎಂಬ ಬಯಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
ಗೋಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಗೋಪೂಜೆಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಸಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವುದುಂಟು.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಗಾವೋ ಮೇ ಅಗ್ರತಃ ಸಂತು ಗಾವೋ ಮೇ ಸಂತು ಪೃಷ್ಠತಃ ।
ಗಾವೋ ಮೇ ಹೃದಯೇ ಸಂತು ಗವಾಂ ಮಧ್ಯೇ ವಸಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
गावो मे अग्रतः सन्तु गावो मे सन्तु पृष्ठतः ।
गावो मे हृदये सन्तु गवां मध्ये वसाम्यहम् ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)
gāvo me agrataḥ santu gāvo me santu pṛṣṭhataḥ |
gāvo me hṛdaye santu gavāṃ madhye vasāmyaham ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಗಾವಃ (गावः, gāvaḥ) = ಹಸುಗಳು (cows)
- ಮೇ (मे, me) = ನನ್ನ (my)
- ಅಗ್ರತಃ ಸಂತು (अग्रतः सन्तु, agrataḥ santu) = ಮುಂದೆ ಇರಲಿ (may be in front)
- ಪೃಷ್ಠತಃ ಸಂತು (पृष्ठतः सन्तु, pṛṣṭhataḥ santu) = ಹಿಂದೆ ಇರಲಿ (may be behind)
- ಹೃದಯೇ ಸಂತು (हृदये सन्तु, hṛdaye santu) = ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಲಿ (may be in the heart)
- ಗವಾಮ್ ಮಧ್ಯೇ (गवाम् मध्ये, gavām madhye) = ಹಸುಗಳ ನಡುವೆ (in the midst of cows)
- ವಸಾಮಿ ಅಹಮ್ (वसामि अहम्, vasāmi aham) = ನಾನು ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ (I live)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹಸುಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಮುಂದೆ ಇರಲಿ, ಹಸುಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇರಲಿ, ಹಸುಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಲಿ, ನಾನು ಹಸುಗಳ ನಡುವೆಯೇ ಬದುಕುತ್ತೇನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
May cows be in front of me, may cows be behind me, may cows be in my heart, may I live in the midst of cows.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಗೋಪೂಜೆ ಮತ್ತು ಗೋಶಾಲೆಗಳ ಆಚರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಕವಾಗಿ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಗ್ರಂಥ ಮೂಲ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ.
This verse is widely used in the worship of cows and in goshalas, though its exact textual source is not clear.
ಹಸುವಿಗೆ ಅಘ್ನ್ಯಾ, ಅಂದರೆ ಕೊಲ್ಲಬಾರದವಳು ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರೂ ಇದೆ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಭಾವ ಆ ಹಳೆಯ ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.
The cow also carries the name aghnya, one not to be killed. The feeling of this verse fits with that old reverence.

ದಿನವೂ ನಮಗೆ ಹಾಲು ಕೊಡುವ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಯನ್ನು ತಾಯಿಯೆಂದು ಕರೆಯುವುದು ಬರೀ ಮಾತಲ್ಲ. ಗೋಶಾಲೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಆಸರೆ ನೀಡುವುದೂ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಗೌರವ.
Calling the animal that gives us milk every day a mother is not just a manner of speaking. Lending a little support to goshalas is also a way of honouring this verse.
