ಪುರಾಣಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬದುಕಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದು ನಂಬಲಾದ ಏಳು ಮಂದಿ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಪ್ತ ಚಿರಂಜೀವಿಗಳು ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದು.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿದರೆ ದೀರ್ಘಾಯುಷ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಲಭಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಭಕ್ತರಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥಾಮಾ ಬಲಿರ್ವ್ಯಾಸೋ ಹನೂಮಾಂಶ್ಚ ವಿಭೀಷಣಃ ।
ಕೃಪಃ ಪರಶುರಾಮಶ್ಚ ಸಪ್ತೈತೇ ಚಿರಂಜೀವಿನಃ ॥

अश्वत्थामा बलिर्व्यासो हनूमांश्च विभीषणः ।
कृपः परशुरामश्च सप्तैते चिरञ्जीविनः ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥಾಮಾ (अश्वत्थामा, aśvatthāmā) = ದ್ರೋಣಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಗ ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥಾಮ (Ashvatthama, son of Dronacharya)
- ಬಲಿಃ (बलिः, baliḥ) = ದಾನಶೂರ ಬಲಿ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ (Bali, the great giver, king of the asuras)
- ವ್ಯಾಸಃ (व्यासः, vyāsaḥ) = ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ರಚಿಸಿದ ವೇದವ್ಯಾಸ (Vyasa, the composer of the Mahabharata)
- ಹನೂಮಾನ್ ಚ (हनूमान् च, hanūmān ca) = ಹನುಮಂತನೂ ಕೂಡ (and Hanuman too)
- ವಿಭೀಷಣಃ (विभीषणः, vibhīṣaṇaḥ) = ಲಂಕೆಯ ರಾಜ ವಿಭೀಷಣ (Vibhishana, king of Lanka)
- ಕೃಪಃ (कृपः, kṛpaḥ) = ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಕೃಪ (Kripa, the preceptor)
- ಪರಶುರಾಮಃ ಚ (परशुरामः च, paraśurāmaḥ ca) = ಪರಶುರಾಮನೂ ಕೂಡ (and Parashurama too)
- ಸಪ್ತ ಏತೇ ಚಿರಂಜೀವಿನಃ (सप्त एते चिरञ्जीविनः, sapta ete cirañjīvinaḥ) = ಈ ಏಳು ಮಂದಿ ಚಿರಂಜೀವಿಗಳು (these seven are the immortals)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥಾಮ, ಬಲಿ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ, ವೇದವ್ಯಾಸ, ಹನುಮಂತ, ವಿಭೀಷಣ, ಕೃಪಾಚಾರ್ಯ, ಪರಶುರಾಮ ಈ ಏಳು ಮಂದಿ ಚಿರಂಜೀವಿಗಳು ಎಂದು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
This verse lists Ashvatthama, King Bali, Vyasa, Hanuman, Vibhishana, Kripacharya and Parashurama as the seven immortals.

ಈ ಏಳು ಮಂದಿಯೂ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಕಾಲದವರು, ಪುರಾಣಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಇವರಿಗೆ ದೀರ್ಘಾಯುಷ್ಯದ ವರ ಅಥವಾ ಶಾಪ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ.
All seven belong to the time of the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and according to the Puranas each received the boon, or in some cases the curse, of a very long life for a reason of their own.
ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆಯಾದರೂ, ಈ ಏಳು ಹೆಸರುಗಳ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವೇ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪಾಠ.
While this list appears with small variations across different texts, this particular verse naming these seven is the most widely known and most commonly used version.
