ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 12.16 ಅರ್ಥ: ಅನಪೇಕ್ಷಃ ಶುಚಿರ್ದಕ್ಷ

ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದವನ್ನೂ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ‘ಶುಚಿ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಮತ್ತು ಒಳಗಿನ ಶುದ್ಧಿಯುಳ್ಳವನು. ‘ದಕ್ಷ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಎದುರಾದ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದು ಮಾಡಬಲ್ಲವನು. ‘ಉದಾಸೀನ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಯಾರ ಪಕ್ಷವನ್ನೂ ಹಿಡಿಯದವನು. ‘ಸರ್ವಾರಂಭಪರಿತ್ಯಾಗೀ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಹ ಪರಗಳ ಫಲಭೋಗಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬಯಕೆಯಿಂದ ಆರಂಭಿಸುವ ಕರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡುವ ಸ್ವಭಾವದವನು. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ‘ದಕ್ಷ’ಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಳ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಸೋಮಾರಿಯಲ್ಲದವನು.

Shankara unfolds each word. ‘Shuchi’ is one with outer and inner purity. ‘Daksha’ is one who can grasp the task at hand and do it rightly at once. ‘Udasina’ is one who takes no one’s side. ‘Sarvarambhaparityagi’ is one whose nature is to give up actions begun out of desire for enjoying their fruit here or hereafter. Sridhara Swami gives ‘daksha’ a simple sense: not lazy.

ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ಕರ್ಮದ ಚೌಕಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ: ‘ಶುಚಿ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಹೇಳಿದ ಆಹಾರದಿಂದ ಪೋಷಿತ ದೇಹವುಳ್ಳವನು, ‘ದಕ್ಷ’ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ಕರ್ಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮರ್ಥನು, ‘ಗತವ್ಯಥ’ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯದ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗದ ಚಳಿ, ಬಿಸಿಲು, ಒರಟು ಸ್ಪರ್ಶಗಳ ನೋವಿಗೆ ಕುಗ್ಗದವನು. ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ ಬರಬಹುದಾದ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪುನರುಕ್ತಿ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಒಂದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಮಾತು, ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಅದರ ವಿವರಣೆ. ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಆರನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ‘ಯೇ ತು ಸರ್ವಾಣಿ ಕರ್ಮಾಣಿ’ ಮಾತಿನ ವಿಸ್ತಾರ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು.

Ramanuja reads the words within the frame of scriptural duty: ‘shuchi’ is one whose body is nourished by food the scripture allows, ‘daksha’ one capable in scriptural duties, ‘gatavyatha’ one who does not shrink from the unavoidable pain of cold, heat and rough contact on the path of duty. Madhva answers here a question a reader may have: there is no repetition in this list, one word is general and another its explanation. This list, he says, is the expansion of ‘ye tu sarvani karmani’ in the sixth verse.

‘ಶುಚಿ’ ಹೊರಗೂ ಒಳಗೂ. ಹೊರಗಿನ ಶುಚಿತ್ವದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸರಳ ರೂಪ ಕೈ ತೊಳೆಯುವುದು. ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊದಲು, ಶೌಚದ ನಂತರ, ರೋಗಿಯನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟುವ ಮೊದಲು ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ ಸಾಬೂನಿನಿಂದ ಕೈ ತೊಳೆಯುವುದು ಅನೇಕ ಸೋಂಕುಗಳನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

‘Shuchi’, pure, outside and within. The simplest form of outer purity is washing the hands. Washing with soap before meals, after the toilet, and before and after touching a patient prevents many infections.

ಒಳಗಿನ ಶುಚಿತ್ವ ಮಾತು ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ದೇಶಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ. ‘ದಕ್ಷ’ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಜೊತೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ: ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕೆಲಸದ ಕೌಶಲವೂ ಬೇಕು.

Inner purity is honesty of word and intention. The word ‘daksha’ joins it: along with a good heart, skill in one’s work is needed too.
