ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಾನುವಾಚ
ಮಯ್ಯಾವೇಶ್ಯ ಮನೋ ಯೇ ಮಾಂ ನಿತ್ಯಯುಕ್ತಾ ಉಪಾಸತೇ।
ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾ ಪರಯೋಪೇತಾಸ್ತೇ ಮೇ ಯುಕ್ತತಮಾ ಮತಾಃ ॥ 2 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
श्रीभगवानुवाच
मय्यावेश्य मनो ये मां नित्ययुक्ता उपासते।
श्रद्धया परयोपेतास्ते मे युक्ततमा मताः ॥ 2 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)

mayyāveśya mano ye māṃ nityayuktā upāsate|

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಾನ್ ಉವಾಚ (श्रीभगवान् उवाच, śrībhagavān uvāca) = ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಂತನು ಹೇಳಿದನು (the Blessed Lord said)
- ಮಯಿ ಮನಃ ಆವೇಶ್ಯ (मयि मनः आवेश्य, mayi manaḥ āveśya) = ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನೆಲೆಗೊಳಿಸಿ (fixing the mind on me)
- ನಿತ್ಯಯುಕ್ತಾಃ ಪರಯಾ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾ ಉಪೇತಾಃ (नित्ययुक्ताः परया श्रद्धया उपेताः, nityayuktāḥ parayā śraddhayā upetāḥ) = ಸದಾ ತೊಡಗಿರುವ, ಪರಮ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ (ever steadfast, endowed with supreme faith)
- ಯೇ ಮಾಂ ಉಪಾಸತೇ (ये मां उपासते, ye māṃ upāsate) = ಯಾರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಉಪಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಾರೋ (those who worship me)
- ತೇ ಮೇ ಯುಕ್ತತಮಾಃ ಮತಾಃ (ते मे युक्ततमाः मताः, te me yuktatamāḥ matāḥ) = ಅವರೇ ಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರು ಎಂಬುದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ (they are the most steadfast in yoga, in my view)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಂತನು ಹೇಳಿದನು: ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನೆಲೆಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಸದಾ ತೊಡಗಿರುವ, ಪರಮ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಯಾರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಉಪಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಾರೋ ಅವರೇ ಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರು ಎಂಬುದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
The Blessed Lord said: Those who fix their minds on me and worship me, ever steadfast and endowed with supreme faith, are in my view the most steadfast in yoga.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 12.2ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 12.2
ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಉತ್ತರ ನೇರ: ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟು ಉಪಾಸಿಸುವವರು ‘ಯುಕ್ತತಮ’. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದನ್ನು ‘ಮೊದಲಿನವರು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರು’ ಎಂಬ ಉತ್ತರವೆಂದೇ ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಸರ್ವಜ್ಞತ್ವ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಗುಣಗಳುಳ್ಳ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರನಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕಾಗ್ರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ, ಅವನಿಗಾಗಿ ಕರ್ಮ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಆರಾಧಿಸುವವರು. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಕಾರಣ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಅತಿಯಾದ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಅವನಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟವರು ಅವನನ್ನು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ, ಬೇಗನೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Krishna’s answer is direct: those who worship with their minds set on him are ‘yuktatama’, the most steadfast. Sridhara Swami reads this as the answer ‘the first are superior’: those who worship the supreme Lord, endowed with qualities such as omniscience, with one-pointed mind, doing work for his sake. Ramanuja gives the reason: those who have set their minds on him out of intense love reach him easily and quickly.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಿದೆ. ವಿಶ್ವರೂಪನಾದ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಗಲೂ ರಾತ್ರಿಯೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟವರನ್ನು ‘ಯುಕ್ತತಮ’ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಸರಿ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು. ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ಅಕ್ಷರವನ್ನು ಉಪಾಸಿಸುವವರು ಯುಕ್ತತಮರಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅಲ್ಲ ಎಂದಲ್ಲ, ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ಬೇರೆ ಎಂದು ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲೇ ಅವರು ಭಗವಂತನ ಉಪಾಸನೆಯೇ ಉತ್ತಮ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
There is a nuance in Shankara’s explanation. It is right, he says, to call ‘most steadfast’ those who keep their minds day and night on the supreme Lord in his cosmic form. Are those who worship the imperishable then not the most steadfast? It is not that, and he explains at the fourth verse that what is to be said of them is different. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text, but at the very opening of the chapter he has made clear that worship of the Lord is the higher.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
‘ಮಯ್ಯಾವೇಶ್ಯ ಮನಃ’, ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನೆಲೆಗೊಳಿಸಿ. ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸು ತಾನಾಗಿಯೇ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೊರಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಭಕ್ತಿಯ ದಾರಿ ಈ ಸಹಜ ಗುಣವನ್ನೇ ಬಳಸುತ್ತದೆ.
‘Mayy aveshya manah’, fixing the mind on me. The mind turns again and again of its own accord towards someone it loves. The path of devotion uses this very natural tendency.
‘ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾ ಪರಯಾ’, ಪರಮ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ. ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ರೋಗಿಯು ಔಷಧವನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನೆರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಕೆಲಸ ಅರ್ಧಕ್ಕೇ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ.
‘Shraddhaya paraya’, with supreme faith. In medicine too, trust in the treatment helps a patient take the medicine properly. Work done without faith stops halfway.
