ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 13.11 ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಜ್ಞಾನನಿತ್ಯತ್ವಂ

ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಗುಣಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ‘ಜ್ಞಾನ’ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಕಾರಣ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಇವು ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸಾಧನಗಳು, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದಿದೆ. ‘ತತ್ತ್ವಜ್ಞಾನಾರ್ಥದರ್ಶನ’ ಅವರಿಗೆ ತತ್ತ್ವಜ್ಞಾನದ ಫಲವಾದ ಮೋಕ್ಷವನ್ನು ಚಿಂತಿಸುವುದು, ಫಲ ಕಣ್ಣಮುಂದೆ ಇದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ಸಾಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಹಂಕಾರ, ಡಂಭ, ಹಿಂಸೆಗಳು ಅಜ್ಞಾನ, ಅವು ಬಿಡಬೇಕಾದವು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು.

The list of twenty qualities ends here, and Krishna gives it the name ‘knowledge’. Shankara gives the reason: these are the means to knowledge, and so they are called knowledge. ‘Tattvajnanarthadarshana’ for him is reflecting on liberation, the fruit of knowledge of the truth, for only when the fruit is in view does one take up the practice with zeal. Pride, pretence and violence, he says, are ignorance, and are to be given up.

ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಜ್ಞಾನ’ ಪದವನ್ನು ‘ಜ್ಞಾಯತೇ ಅನೇನ’, ಇದರಿಂದ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಎಂದು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದೊಡನೆ ಸಂಬಂಧವಿರುವ ಪುರುಷನಿಗೆ ಈ ಗುಣಗಳೇ ಆತ್ಮಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಉಪಾಯ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ತತ್ತ್ವಜ್ಞಾನಾರ್ಥದರ್ಶನ’ಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪರೋಕ್ಷ ಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಾಧ್ಯಯನ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ‘ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಜ್ಞಾನ’ವನ್ನು ‘ತ್ವಂ’ ಪದದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು, ಅಂದರೆ ಜೀವನ ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು, ಶುದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸುವ ನಿಷ್ಠೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Ramanuja unfolds the word ‘jnana’ as ‘jnayate anena’, that by which the self is known. For the person bound up with the field, these very qualities are the means to self-knowledge. Madhva takes ‘tattvajnanarthadarshana’ as study of the scriptures for the sake of direct knowledge. Sridhara Swami calls ‘adhyatmajnana’ steadfastness in purifying the meaning of the word ‘tvam’, that is, the nature of the individual self.

ಗೀತೆಯ ಈ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಜ್ಞಾನ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯಲ್ಲ, ಸ್ವಭಾವ. ವಿನಯ, ಅಹಿಂಸೆ, ಸಹನೆ, ನೇರತೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗೀತೆ ಅಜ್ಞಾನ ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

In this list of the Gita ‘knowledge’ is not information but character. Learning without humility, non-violence, patience and uprightness the Gita calls ignorance itself.

ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವೂ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಇದನ್ನೇ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದೆ: ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ರೋಗಿಯೊಡನೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ರೀತಿ, ನೈತಿಕತೆ, ವಿನಯಗಳೂ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ಭಾಗ.

Medical education too has lately been saying the same: along with book knowledge, the way we speak with patients, ethics and humility are part of competence.
