ಮಯಿ ಚಾನನ್ಯಯೋಗೇನ ಭಕ್ತಿರವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರಿಣೀ।
ವಿವಿಕ್ತದೇಶಸೇವಿತ್ವಮರತಿರ್ಜನಸಂಸದಿ ॥ 10 ॥

मयि चानन्ययोगेन भक्तिरव्यभिचारिणी।

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಮಯಿ ಚ ಅನನ್ಯಯೋಗೇನ (मयि च अनन्ययोगेन, mayi ca ananyayogena) = ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಯೋಗದಿಂದ (and towards me, through a yoga with nothing else)
- ಅವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರಿಣೀ ಭಕ್ತಿಃ (अव्यभिचारिणी भक्तिः, avyabhicāriṇī bhaktiḥ) = ಅಚಲವಾದ ಭಕ್ತಿ (unswerving devotion)
- ವಿವಿಕ್ತದೇಶಸೇವಿತ್ವಮ್ (विविक्तदेशसेवित्वम्, viviktadeśasevitvam) = ಏಕಾಂತ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಸ್ವಭಾವ (resorting to secluded places)

ಶ್ಲೋಕ 13.10ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 13.10
ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ನಡುವೆ ಭಕ್ತಿ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಅನನ್ಯಯೋಗ’ವನ್ನು ಹೀಗೆ ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಭಗವಂತ ವಾಸುದೇವನಿಗಿಂತ ಮೇಲಿನವನು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಗತಿ ಎಂಬ ಅಚಲ ನಿಶ್ಚಯ. ಆ ಭಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನೂ ಅವರು ‘ಜ್ಞಾನ’ ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಅದನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲದರಲ್ಲೂ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಏಕಾಂತ ಭಕ್ತಿ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಅದು ಸರ್ವೇಶ್ವರನಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕಾಂತ ಯೋಗದಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಿರವಾದ ಭಕ್ತಿ.
Devotion, in the middle of a list of knowledge. Shankara explains ‘ananya yoga’ like this: the firm conviction that there is none higher than the Lord Vasudeva, and so he alone is our refuge. He calls that devotion too ‘knowledge’. Sridhara Swami calls it single-minded devotion joined with the vision that sees the Self in all. For Ramanuja it is devotion held steady in the Lord of all through single-pointed yoga.
‘ವಿವಿಕ್ತ ದೇಶ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಭಾವತಃ ಅಥವಾ ಶುದ್ಧಿಗೊಳಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕೊಳಕು, ಹಾವು, ಹುಲಿಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಕಾಡು, ನದಿತೀರ, ದೇವಾಲಯದಂಥ ಸ್ಥಳ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಪ್ರಸನ್ನವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ‘ಜನಸಂಸದಿ ಅರತಿ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಲೌಕಿಕ ಜನರ ಗುಂಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರುಚಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದು, ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಸಂಗವನ್ನು ಬಿಡುವುದಲ್ಲ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
A ‘secluded place’ for Shankara is one free, by nature or by being cleaned, of filth, snakes and tigers: a forest, a riverbank, a temple. There the mind grows serene. ‘No taste for crowds’ according to Sridhara Swami means having no relish for gatherings of worldly people, not giving up the company of the good. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಏಕಾಂತ ಮತ್ತು ಒಂಟಿತನ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ. ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ಶಾಂತವಾಗಿ ಒಬ್ಬರೇ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು.
Chosen solitude and loneliness are different things. Sitting quietly alone for a while each day is good for the mind.
ಆದರೆ ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲದ ಒಂಟಿತನ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪಾಯ ಎಂದು ಅಧ್ಯಯನಗಳು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಹಿರಿಯರಲ್ಲಿ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಅರ್ಥದಂತೆ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಸಂಗ ಬಿಡಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಂಟಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಹಿರಿಯರನ್ನು ಮಾತನಾಡಿಸುವುದೂ ಸೇವೆ.
But studies show that long-standing loneliness is a risk to health, especially among the elderly. As Sridhara Swami’s sense shows, the company of good people need not be given up. Talking with elders who live alone is also a service.
