Context and commentary on verse 16.3
Shankara says ‘tejas’ is not a glow of the skin but boldness. He draws a fine line between ‘kshama’ and ‘akrodha’: when abuse or a blow comes, not having any disturbance arise within is forgiveness, while calming a disturbance that has arisen is freedom from anger. ‘Dhriti’ for him is the power of the mind that holds up the body and senses when they sink.
For Ramanuja ‘tejas’ is not being overcome by the wicked, and ‘dhriti’ is deciding what must be done even in great calamity. Madhva gives ‘forgiveness’ another dimension: not harming in return the one who has harmed, without anger. Sridhara Swami calls ‘adroha’ the absence of any wish to kill, and ‘dhriti’ steadying a mind that is sinking in sorrow.

For life today
‘Dhriti’ is, in today’s language, resilience. In a long illness, small goals for the day, the company of loved ones and a regular routine grow this strength.
Forgiveness is not only a gift to another, it also lightens the load on our own mind. Forgiving does not mean calling the wrong right, nor staying in a harmful relationship.
