ತಸ್ಮಾಚ್ಛಾಸ್ತ್ರಂ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಂ ತೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಕಾರ್ಯವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತೌ।
ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವಿಧಾನೋಕ್ತಂ ಕರ್ಮ ಕರ್ತುಮಿಹಾರ್ಹಸಿ ॥ 24 ॥

तस्माच्छास्त्रं प्रमाणं ते कार्याकार्यव्यवस्थितौ।
ज्ञात्वा शास्त्रविधानोक्तं कर्म कर्तुमिहार्हसि ॥ 24 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ತಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಕಾರ್ಯವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತೌ (तस्मात् कार्याकार्यव्यवस्थितौ, tasmāt kāryākāryavyavasthitau) = ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ್ದು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಡಬಾರದ್ದರ ನಿರ್ಣಯದಲ್ಲಿ (therefore, in deciding what should and should not be done)
- ತೇ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಂ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಮ್ (ते शास्त्रं प्रमाणम्, te śāstraṃ pramāṇam) = ನಿನಗೆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವೇ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ (scripture is your authority)
- ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವಿಧಾನೋಕ್ತಂ ಜ್ಞಾತ್ವಾ (शास्त्रविधानोक्तं ज्ञात्वा, śāstravidhānoktaṃ jñātvā) = ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ವಿಧಾನ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು (knowing what the ordinance of scripture declares)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ್ದು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಡಬಾರದ್ದರ ನಿರ್ಣಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನಗೆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವೇ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ವಿಧಾನ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಕರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Therefore, in deciding what should and should not be done, scripture is your authority. Knowing what the ordinance of scripture declares, you should perform your work here.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 16.24ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 16.24
ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದರ ನಿರ್ಣಯ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ‘ಜ್ಞಾನಸಾಧನ’, ಅರಿವಿನ ಸಾಧನ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ, ‘ಇಹ’, ಇಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಕರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರವಿರುವ ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ‘ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ’ ಶ್ರುತಿ, ಸ್ಮೃತಿ, ಪುರಾಣ ಮೊದಲಾದವು, ಕರ್ಮದ ಅಧಿಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿರುವವನು ತನ್ನ ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
The last verse of the chapter is its conclusion. Shankara calls scripture ‘the means of knowledge’, and says the word ‘iha’, here, points to this earth where one is entitled to action. For Sridhara Swami ‘scripture’ is shruti, smriti, purana and the like, and one who is entitled to action should act in keeping with that entitlement.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಪುರಾಣಗಳು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿ ಹೇಳುವ ವೇದಗಳು ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮನೆಂಬ ಪರತತ್ತ್ವವನ್ನೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಗೊಳಿಸುವ, ಅವನನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸುವ ಕರ್ಮವನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಆ ತತ್ತ್ವವನ್ನೂ ಕರ್ಮವನ್ನೂ ಅರಿತು, ಕಡಿಮೆಯೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸಬೇಕು. ಮುಂದಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ ಈ ಮಾತಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Ramanuja makes the subject of scripture clear: the Vedas, as amplified by the dharma texts, the epics and the Puranas, make known both the supreme reality called Purushottama and the action that pleases him and leads to him. Knowing that reality and that action, one should practise it rightly, neither less nor more. The next chapter opens with Arjuna’s question, born from this very statement. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
‘ಪ್ರಮಾಣ’, ನಂಬಲರ್ಹ ಆಧಾರ. ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ನಿರ್ಧಾರಗಳಿಗೂ ನಂಬಲರ್ಹ ಆಧಾರ ಬೇಕು. ಮೊಬೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿದಾಡುವ ‘ಪವಾಡದ ಮದ್ದು’ ಸಂದೇಶಗಳು ಪ್ರಮಾಣವಲ್ಲ.
‘Pramana’, a trustworthy authority. Health decisions also need a trustworthy basis. ‘Miracle cure’ messages circulating on the phone are not an authority.
‘ಇಹ’, ಇಲ್ಲಿ. ಅರಿವು ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಇಲ್ಲೇ, ಈಗಲೇ. ಕಾಯುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಅರಿತದ್ದನ್ನು ಸಣ್ಣ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚರಿಸುವುದು ಗೀತೆಯ ದಾರಿ.
‘Iha’, here. Once understanding comes, the work is here and now. Putting what we have understood into practice in small steps, rather than waiting, is the Gita’s way.
