ಅರ್ಜುನ ಉವಾಚ
ಕೈರ್ಲಿಂಗೈಸ್ತ್ರೀನ್ಗುಣಾನೇತಾನತೀತೋ ಭವತಿ ಪ್ರಭೋ।
ಕಿಮಾಚಾರಃ ಕಥಂ ಚೈತಾಂಸ್ತ್ರೀನ್ಗುಣಾನತಿವರ್ತತೇ ॥ 21 ॥

कैर्लिङ्गैस्त्रीन्गुणानेतानतीतो भवति प्रभो।
किमाचारः कथं चैतांस्त्रीन्गुणानतिवर्तते ॥ 21 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅರ್ಜುನ ಉವಾಚ (अर्जुन उवाच, arjuna uvāca) = ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು (Arjuna said)
- ಪ್ರಭೋ ಏತಾನ್ ತ್ರೀನ್ ಗುಣಾನ್ ಅತೀತಃ (प्रभो एतान् त्रीन् गुणान् अतीतः, prabho etān trīn guṇān atītaḥ) = ಪ್ರಭು, ಈ ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಟಿದವನು (O Lord, one who has gone beyond these three gunas)
- ಕೈಃ ಲಿಂಗೈಃ ಭವತಿ (कैः लिङ्गैः भवति, kaiḥ liṅgaiḥ bhavati) = ಯಾವ ಗುರುತುಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ (by what marks is he known)
- ಕಿಮಾಚಾರಃ (किमाचारः, kimācāraḥ) = ಅವನ ನಡವಳಿಕೆ ಹೇಗೆ (what is his conduct)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು: ಪ್ರಭು, ಈ ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಟಿದವನನ್ನು ಯಾವ ಗುರುತುಗಳಿಂದ ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದು? ಅವನ ನಡವಳಿಕೆ ಹೇಗೆ? ಅವನು ಈ ಮೂರು ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ದಾಟುತ್ತಾನೆ?
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Arjuna said: O Lord, by what marks is one who has gone beyond these three gunas known? What is his conduct? And how does he pass beyond these three gunas?
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 14.21ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 14.21
ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಮೂರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳು: ಗುರುತುಗಳು, ನಡವಳಿಕೆ, ದಾರಿ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ‘ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ ಅಮೃತವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಕೇಳಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಯುವ ಬಯಕೆಯಿಂದ ಅರ್ಜುನ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಎರಡನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಿತಪ್ರಜ್ಞನ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೂ ಅವನು ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದ (2.54): ಅವನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಹೇಗೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಹೇಗೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Arjuna’s three questions: the marks, the conduct, the way. According to Sridhara Swami, hearing ‘transcending the gunas he attains immortality’, Arjuna asks from the wish to understand it rightly. In the second chapter he had asked in the same way about the one of steady wisdom (2.54): how does he speak, how does he sit, how does he walk.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಉತ್ತರದ ಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಮೊದಲೇ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಮುಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು ಗುಣಾತೀತನ ಲಕ್ಷಣ ಮತ್ತು ಗುಣಾತೀತನಾಗುವ ಉಪಾಯ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಕಿಮಾಚಾರ’ವನ್ನು ಆತ್ಮಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು ಅರಿತದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರುತಾಗುವ ನಡವಳಿಕೆ ಎಂದು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Shankara indicates the order of Krishna’s answer in advance: the verses that follow give both the marks of one beyond the gunas and the means of becoming so. Ramanuja takes ‘kimachara’ to mean the conduct that is the sign of having known the self’s nature. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.
