Context and commentary on verse 14.24
The word ‘svastha’ is lovely here. For Shankara it is ‘sve atmani sthitah’, established in his own Self, serene. Sridhara Swami shows the chain of cause: because he abides in his own nature, pleasure and pain are alike to him, and because of that a clod, a stone and gold are alike. ‘Dhira’ for him means wise.
Ramanuja unfolds ‘svastha’ like this: since his own self alone is dear to him, he is even-minded in joys and sorrows other than it, such as the births and deaths of children. From that come a clod, stone and gold being alike, and the dear and unwelcome being alike. He explains this and the next verse together. Madhva says the sense of evenness has been given earlier.

In Ayurveda ‘svastha’ means healthy. The sense of the word, ‘health is abiding in oneself’, applies to both body and mind.
‘Tulyanindatmasamstuti’, alike in blame and praise. The likes and the criticism of social media send the mind up and down. Limiting the time we give them is a small step towards this evenness.
