ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಭಯಾದ್ರಣಾದುಪರತಂ ಮಂಸ್ಯಂತೇ ತ್ವಾಂ ಮಹಾರಥಾಃ।
ಯೇಷಾಂ ಚ ತ್ವಂ ಬಹುಮತೋ ಭೂತ್ವಾ ಯಾಸ್ಯಸಿ ಲಾಘವಮ್ ॥ 35 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
भयाद्रणादुपरतं मंस्यन्ते त्वां महारथाः।
येषां च त्वं बहुमतो भूत्वा यास्यसि लाघवम् ॥ 35 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
bhayādraṇāduparataṃ maṃsyante tvāṃ mahārathāḥ|
yeṣāṃ ca tvaṃ bahumato bhūtvā yāsyasi lāghavam || 35 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಭಯಾತ್ (भयात्, bhayāt) = ಭಯದಿಂದ (out of fear)
- ರಣಾತ್ (रणात्, raṇāt) = ಯುದ್ಧದಿಂದ (from battle)
- ಉಪರತಮ್ (उपरतम्, uparatam) = ಹಿಂದೆ ಸರಿದವನೆಂದು (that you withdrew)
- ಮಂಸ್ಯಂತೇ (मंस्यन्ते, maṃsyante) = ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ (will think)
- ತ್ವಾಮ್ (त्वाम्, tvām) = ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು (of you)
- ಮಹಾರಥಾಃ (महारथाः, mahārathāḥ) = ಮಹಾರಥರು (the great chariot-warriors)
- ಯೇಷಾಮ್ (येषाम्, yeṣām) = ಯಾರ (of whom)
- ಚ (च, ca) = ಮತ್ತು (and)
- ತ್ವಮ್ (त्वम्, tvam) = ನೀನು (you)
- ಬಹುಮತಃ (बहुमतः, bahumataḥ) = ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರನಾಗಿದ್ದೆಯೋ (were highly regarded)
- ಭೂತ್ವಾ (भूत्वा, bhūtvā) = ಆಗಿದ್ದು (having been)
- ಯಾಸ್ಯಸಿ (यास्यसि, yāsyasi) = ಹೊಂದುತ್ತೀಯೆ (you will come to)
- ಲಾಘವಮ್ (लाघवम्, lāghavam) = ಹಗುರತನವನ್ನು, ಕೀಳರಿಮೆಯನ್ನು (lightness, to be thought little of)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಮಹಾರಥರು ನೀನು ಭಯದಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧದಿಂದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸರಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಯಾರ ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ನೀನು ಪಾತ್ರನಾಗಿದ್ದೆಯೋ ಅವರ ಕಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಹಗುರವಾಗುತ್ತೀಯೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
The great chariot-warriors will think that you withdrew from the battle out of fear, and in the eyes of those who held you high you will become light.

ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಹರಿತಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಪಕೀರ್ತಿ ಬರುವುದು ಅಪರಿಚಿತರಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಗೌರವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವರಿಂದಲೇ ಎಂಬುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಒತ್ತು.
The point of the previous verse is sharpened here. The dishonour will not come from strangers but from the very men who held him in regard.
ಲಾಘವ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಸೊಗಸಾಗಿದೆ. ತೂಕ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ಹಗುರವಾಗುವುದು. ಗೌರವ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ತೂಕದ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನೇ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಬಳಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ನಿಜವಾದ ಕಾರಣ ಭಯವಲ್ಲ, ಕರುಣೆ. ಆದರೆ ಜನ ಕಾಣುವುದು ಕಾರಣವನ್ನಲ್ಲ, ವರ್ತನೆಯನ್ನು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಕೃಷ್ಣ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
The word laghava is a fine one: to lose weight, to become light. Sanskrit uses the image of weight for respect itself. Besides, Arjuna’s real reason is not fear but compassion. Krishna reminds him that people see the behaviour, not the reason behind it.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ನಮ್ಮ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಒಂದು, ಜನ ಓದುವುದು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು. ಇದು ಬದುಕಿನ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ನೋವು. ದಣಿವಿನಿಂದ ರಜೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡವರನ್ನು ಸೋಮಾರಿ ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಎಚ್ಚರದಿಂದ ಕಾದವರನ್ನು ಹೆದರುಪುಕ್ಕಲ ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
Our intention is one thing and what people read is another. This is an ordinary pain of life. Someone who takes leave from exhaustion is called lazy; someone who waits out of care is called timid.
ಇದನ್ನು ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಲು ನಾವು ಮಾಡಬಹುದಾದ್ದು ಕಡಿಮೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ನಮಗೆ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಆ ತಪ್ಪು ಓದು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕದಲಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗೀತೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಡುವ ಸ್ಥಿತಪ್ರಜ್ಞನ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಬೇರು ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
