ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಗುರೂನಹತ್ವಾ ಹಿ ಮಹಾನುಭಾವಾನ್ ಶ್ರೇಯೋ ಭೋಕ್ತುಂ ಭೈಕ್ಷ್ಯಮಪೀಹ ಲೋಕೇ।
ಹತ್ವಾರ್ಥಕಾಮಾಂಸ್ತು ಗುರೂನಿಹೈವ ಭುಂಜೀಯ ಭೋಗಾನ್ರುಧಿರಪ್ರದಿಗ್ಧಾನ್ ॥ 5 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
गुरूनहत्वा हि महानुभावान् श्रेयो भोक्तुं भैक्ष्यमपीह लोके।
हत्वार्थकामांस्तु गुरूनिहैव भुञ्जीय भोगान्रुधिरप्रदिग्धान् ॥ 5 ॥

gurūnahatvā hi mahānubhāvān śreyo bhoktuṃ bhaikṣyamapīha loke|
hatvārthakāmāṃstu gurūnihaiva bhuñjīya bhogānrudhirapradigdhān || 5 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಗುರೂನ್ (गुरून्, gurūn) = ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು (the teachers)
- ಅಹತ್ವಾ (अहत्वा, ahatvā) = ಕೊಲ್ಲದೆ (without killing)
- ಹಿ (हि, hi) = ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ (indeed)
- ಮಹಾನುಭಾವಾನ್ (महानुभावान्, mahānubhāvān) = ಮಹಾತ್ಮರಾದ (noble, great-souled)
- ಶ್ರೇಯಃ (श्रेयः, śreyaḥ) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು (better)
- ಭೋಕ್ತುಮ್ (भोक्तुम्, bhoktum) = ಅನುಭವಿಸುವುದು (to enjoy, to eat)
- ಭೈಕ್ಷ್ಯಮ್ (भैक्ष्यम्, bhaikṣyam) = ಭಿಕ್ಷೆಯ ಅನ್ನವನ್ನು (food got by begging)
- ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಸಹ (even)
- ಇಹ ಲೋಕೇ (इह लोके, iha loke) = ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ (in this world)
- ಹತ್ವಾ (हत्वा, hatvā) = ಕೊಂದು (having killed)
- ಅರ್ಥಕಾಮಾನ್ (अर्थकामान्, arthakāmān) = ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ (who desire wealth)
- ಗುರೂನ್ (गुरून्, gurūn) = ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು (teachers)
- ಇಹ ಏವ (इह एव, iha eva) = ಇಲ್ಲೇ (here itself)
- ಭುಂಜೀಯ (भुञ्जीय, bhuñjīya) = ಅನುಭವಿಸಬೇಕಾದೀತು (I would enjoy)
- ಭೋಗಾನ್ (भोगान्, bhogān) = ಭೋಗಗಳನ್ನು (pleasures)
- ರುಧಿರಪ್ರದಿಗ್ಧಾನ್ (रुधिरप्रदिग्धान्, rudhirapradigdhān) = ರಕ್ತದಿಂದ ತೊಯ್ದ (smeared with blood)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಮಹಾತ್ಮರಾದ ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲದೆ ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಿಕ್ಷೆಯ ಅನ್ನ ತಿನ್ನುವುದೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂದರೆ, ಇಲ್ಲೇ ರಕ್ತದಿಂದ ತೊಯ್ದ ಭೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಬೇಕಾದೀತು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
It would be better to live on alms in this world than to kill these noble teachers. If I kill teachers who seek wealth, the pleasures I enjoy here will be smeared with their blood.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 2.5ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 2.5
ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಛಂದಸ್ಸು ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಎರಡರಿಂದ ನಾಲ್ಕರವರೆಗೆ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್, ಐದರಿಂದ ಎಂಟರವರೆಗೆ ತ್ರಿಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಎಂಬ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಛಂದಸ್ಸು. ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಮಾತು ಭಾವದಲ್ಲಿ ಏರಿದಂತೆ ಸಾಲುಗಳೂ ಉದ್ದವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ಕೆಲವರು ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
The metre changes here. Verses two to four are in the anushtubh metre; five to eight are in the longer trishtubh. Some observe that as Arjuna’s feeling rises, his lines grow longer too.
ಅರ್ಥಕಾಮಾನ್ ಎಂಬ ಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಚುಚ್ಚು ಇದೆ. ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಬಯಸಿ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ಕಡೆ ನಿಂತವರು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಅದಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂಜ್ಯರೆಂದವನೇ ಅವರ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಹೆಸರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಭಿಕ್ಷೆಯ ಮಾತು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯನಿಗೆ ಭಿಕ್ಷೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಮಾರ್ಗವಲ್ಲ. ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸದ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಜುನ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿ ಎತ್ತುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಗೀತೆ ಆ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಐದನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
There is a barb in the word arthakaman, those who desire wealth: men who stand with Duryodhana for the sake of wealth. The same Arjuna who called his teachers worthy of worship also names their weakness. Besides, the mention of alms is worth noting. Begging is not the ordinary path of a kshatriya. Arjuna raises the way of renunciation here for the first time, and the Gita examines that way closely in the fifth chapter.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ರಕ್ತದಿಂದ ತೊಯ್ದ ಭೋಗ ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರ ಮರೆಯುವಂಥದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಗೆಲುವಿನ ರುಚಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತೆತ್ತ ಬೆಲೆಯ ನೆನಪಿನಿಂದ ಕಹಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಭಯ.
The image of pleasures smeared with blood is not easy to forget. Arjuna’s fear is that the taste of victory will turn bitter with the memory of what it cost.
ಈ ಭಯ ನಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಇದೆ. ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಮುರಿದು ಪಡೆದ ಆಸ್ತಿ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸವೆಸಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದ ಹುದ್ದೆ. ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿ: ನಾವು ಈಗ ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದರ ಬೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರೋ ತೆತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ?
That fear lives in our lives too: property won by breaking a relationship, a position earned by spending one’s health. Think about it: in what we enjoy now, whose price did someone else pay?
