ತತ್ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಂ ಯಚ್ಚ ಯಾದೃಕ್ಚ ಯದ್ವಿಕಾರಿ ಯತಶ್ಚ ಯತ್।
ಸ ಚ ಯೋ ಯತ್ಪ್ರಭಾವಶ್ಚ ತತ್ಸಮಾಸೇನ ಮೇ ಶೃಣು ॥ 3 ॥

तत्क्षेत्रं यच्च यादृक्च यद्विकारि यतश्च यत्।
स च यो यत्प्रभावश्च तत्समासेन मे शृणु ॥ 3 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ತತ್ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಂ ಯತ್ ಚ (तत् क्षेत्रं यत् च, tat kṣetraṃ yat ca) = ಆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಯಾವುದು (what that field is)
- ಯಾದೃಕ್ ಚ ಯದ್ವಿಕಾರಿ (यादृक् च यद्विकारि, yādṛk ca yadvikāri) = ಹೇಗಿದೆ, ಯಾವ ವಿಕಾರಗಳುಳ್ಳದ್ದು (of what nature, with what modifications)
- ಯತಃ ಚ ಯತ್ (यतः च यत्, yataḥ ca yat) = ಯಾವುದರಿಂದ ಯಾವುದು ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ (and what arises from what)
- ಸಃ ಚ ಯಃ ಯತ್ಪ್ರಭಾವಃ ಚ (सः च यः यत्प्रभावः च, saḥ ca yaḥ yatprabhāvaḥ ca) = ಅವನು ಯಾರು, ಅವನ ಪ್ರಭಾವಗಳೇನು (and who he is, and what his powers are)

ಆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಯಾವುದು, ಹೇಗಿದೆ, ಯಾವ ವಿಕಾರಗಳುಳ್ಳದ್ದು, ಯಾವುದರಿಂದ ಯಾವುದು ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ, ಆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಜ್ಞ ಯಾರು, ಅವನ ಪ್ರಭಾವಗಳೇನು, ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಸಂಕ್ಷೇಪವಾಗಿ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಕೇಳು.

What that field is, of what nature, with what modifications, what arises from what, and who the knower is and what his powers are: hear all this from me in brief.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 13.3ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 13.3
ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮುಂದಿನ ಉಪದೇಶದ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಮೊದಲೇ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ‘ಯಾದೃಕ್’ ಎಂದರೆ ಅದರ ಸ್ವಂತ ಧರ್ಮಗಳಿಂದ ಹೇಗಿದೆ, ‘ಯದ್ವಿಕಾರಿ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಯಾವ ವಿಕಾರಗಳು ಅದರವು, ‘ಯತಶ್ಚ ಯತ್’ ಎಂದರೆ ಯಾವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಯಾವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ. ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಜ್ಞನ ‘ಪ್ರಭಾವ’ಗಳು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಉಪಾಧಿಗಳಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಶಕ್ತಿಗಳು. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಅದು ಯಾವ ದ್ರವ್ಯ, ಯಾವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಶ್ರಯ, ಯಾವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿತು, ಯಾವ ಉದ್ದೇಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿತು.
Krishna gives the outline of the coming teaching in advance. According to Shankara ‘yadrik’ means what it is like by its own properties, ‘yadvikari’ what modifications belong to it, and ‘yatash cha yat’ what effect arises from what cause. The ‘powers’ of the knower of the field are for him capacities that come from adjuncts. Ramanuja unfolds the questions further: what substance it is, what it is the support of, from what cause it arose, and for what purpose.
ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಯತಶ್ಚ ಯತ್’ ಅನ್ನು ‘ಯಾರಿಂದ ಇದು ಪ್ರವರ್ತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ’ ಎಂದು ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ, ‘ಸ ಚ’ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವವನು ಎಂದು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಒಂದು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಇಪ್ಪತ್ನಾಲ್ಕು ತತ್ತ್ವಗಳ ಇಡೀ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯೇ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ, ಆದರೂ ದೇಹರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದರ ಮೇಲಿನ ‘ನಾನು’ ಎಂಬ ಭ್ರಮೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ‘ಇದಂ ಶರೀರಂ’ ಎಂದು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದೆ.
Madhva reads ‘yatash cha yat’ as ‘from whom it proceeds’, and takes ‘sa cha’ as the one who sets the field in motion. Sridhara Swami notes a subtlety: the whole of prakriti with its twenty-four principles is the field, yet since the false sense of ‘I’ is plainest in its bodily form, the teaching begins with ‘this body’.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕ ಪಾಠದ ಮೊದಲು ಅದರ ನಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಏನು, ಹೇಗೆ, ಏಕೆ, ಯಾರು ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರೆ ಕೇಳುವವನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
A good teacher gives the map before the lesson. When we begin with the questions what, how, why and who, the listener’s mind does not lose its way.
ರೋಗದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಕೇಳುವಾಗಲೂ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಇದೇ ಕ್ರಮ ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ: ತೊಂದರೆ ಏನು, ಎಲ್ಲಿ, ಯಾವಾಗಿನಿಂದ, ಯಾವುದರಿಂದ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಡಿಮೆ. ಸರಿಯಾದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳು ಅರ್ಧ ಉತ್ತರ.
When taking a history of an illness, doctors follow the same order: what the trouble is, where, since when, and what makes it better or worse. The right questions are half the answer.
