ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯೋಽಂತಃಸುಖೋಽಂತರಾರಾಮಸ್ತಥಾಂತರ್ಜ್ಯೋತಿರೇವ ಯಃ।
ಸ ಯೋಗೀ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಭೂತೋಽಧಿಗಚ್ಛತಿ ॥ 24 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
योऽन्तःसुखोऽन्तरारामस्तथान्तर्ज्योतिरेव यः।
स योगी ब्रह्मनिर्वाणं ब्रह्मभूतोऽधिगच्छति ॥ 24 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
yo’ntaḥsukho’ntarārāmastathāntarjyotireva yaḥ|
sa yogī brahmanirvāṇaṃ brahmabhūto’dhigacchati || 24 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯಃ ಅಂತಃಸುಖಃ (यः अन्तःसुखः, yaḥ antaḥsukhaḥ) = ಯಾರು ಒಳಗೇ ಸುಖವುಳ್ಳವನೋ (he whose joy is within)
- ಅಂತರಾರಾಮಃ (अन्तरारामः, antarārāmaḥ) = ಒಳಗೇ ಆಟವಾಡುವವನು, ಒಳಗೇ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ ಕಾಣುವವನು (whose delight is within)
- ತಥಾ ಅಂತರ್ಜ್ಯೋತಿಃ ಏವ ಯಃ (तथा अन्तर्ज्योतिः एव यः, tathā antarjyotiḥ eva yaḥ) = ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಒಳಗೇ ಬೆಳಕುಳ್ಳವನೋ (and whose light is within)
- ಸಃ ಯೋಗೀ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಭೂತಃ (सः योगी ब्रह्मभूतः, saḥ yogī brahmabhūtaḥ) = ಆ ಯೋಗಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವೇ ಆಗಿ (that yogi, having become Brahman)
- ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣಮ್ ಅಧಿಗಚ್ಛತಿ (ब्रह्मनिर्वाणम् अधिगच्छति, brahmanirvāṇam adhigacchati) = ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣವನ್ನು ಸೇರುತ್ತಾನೆ (attains the peace of Brahman, brahma-nirvana)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಒಳಗೇ ಸುಖವೋ, ಒಳಗೇ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯೋ, ಒಳಗೇ ಬೆಳಕೋ, ಆ ಯೋಗಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವೇ ಆಗಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣವನ್ನು ಸೇರುತ್ತಾನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
He whose joy is within, whose delight is within, whose light is within, that yogi, having become Brahman, attains brahma-nirvana, the peace of Brahman.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 5.24ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 5.24
‘ಅಂತಃ’ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ: ಸುಖ, ಆರಾಮ, ಜ್ಯೋತಿ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದರ ವಿರುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿ ಅರ್ಥ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಸುಖ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಲ್ಲ, ಆಟ ಹೊರಗಲ್ಲ, ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಹಾಡು ಕುಣಿತಗಳಲ್ಲಲ್ಲ. ‘ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣ’ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲು ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
‘Within’ comes three times: joy, delight, light. Sridhara Swami clarifies each by its opposite: joy not in objects, play not outside, sight not in song and dance. The word ‘brahma-nirvana’ first appeared in the last verse of the second chapter. At the close of this chapter it comes three times.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣ ಎಂದರೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ, ಮೋಕ್ಷ, ಅದೂ ‘ಇಹ ಜೀವನ್ನೇವ’, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬದುಕಿರುವಾಗಲೇ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ‘ನಿರ್ವಾಣ’ವನ್ನು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಯ ಎಂದು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
For Shankara brahma-nirvana is rest in Brahman, liberation, and that ‘here, while still living’. Sridhara Swami opens ‘nirvana’ as dissolution in Brahman.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಅಂತರಾರಾಮ’ ಎಂದರೆ ತನ್ನದೇ ಗುಣಗಳಿಂದ ಆತ್ಮವೇ ಸುಖವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವವನು. ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿರ್ವಾಣ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಆತ್ಮಾನುಭವದ ಸುಖ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಆರಾಮ’ ಮತ್ತು ‘ಸುಖ’ದ ನಡುವೆ ಒಂದು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಭೇದ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ನಾರದೀಯದ ವಚನವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧರಿಸಿ. ನೋಡುವುದು, ಮುಟ್ಟುವುದು, ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟುವುದು ಆರಾಮ, ಕಾಮ ಕ್ಷಯಿಸಿದಾಗ ಹುಟ್ಟುವುದು ಸುಖ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದರಿಂದ ಬರುತ್ತವೆ, ಮತ್ತು ‘ಅಂತರ್ಜ್ಯೋತಿ’ ಭಗವಂತನ ಸ್ವಯಂಪ್ರಕಾಶದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ.
For Ramanuja ‘delight within’ means one for whom the self itself, by its own qualities, increases joy. Brahma-nirvana for him is the joy of experiencing the self. Madhva draws a fine distinction between ‘delight’ and ‘joy’, quoting the Naradiya: delight is what arises from seeing, touching and conversing, joy is what arises when desire is spent. Here both arise from seeing the Supreme Self, and ‘light within’ is the manifestation of the Lord’s self-luminous nature.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂತೋಷದ ಸ್ವಿಚ್ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವರು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿದರೆ ಬೆಳಕು, ಮೆಚ್ಚದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕತ್ತಲೆ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಸ್ವಿಚ್ಚನ್ನು ಒಳಗೆ ತರುವ ಮಾತು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.
The switch for our happiness is often in someone else’s hand. If they approve, there is light; if not, darkness. This verse speaks of bringing that switch inside.
ವಯಸ್ಸಾದಂತೆ ಅನೇಕ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಸುಖಗಳು ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ: ರುಚಿ, ಓಡಾಟ, ಗೆಳೆಯರ ಗುಂಪು. ಒಳಗಿನ ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಬೇಗ ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡವರಿಗೆ ಆ ಕಾಲ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಕತ್ತಲೆಯಾಗಬಹುದು.
As we age, many outer pleasures fade one by one: taste, getting about, the circle of friends. For those who found the inner light early, that season may be less dark.
