About this verse
Some printings give this verse at the start of the Niralamba Upanishad. Others call it a verse of a guru stotra. We are not sure of the source, so we name no author.
Some texts write sachchidananda murtaye as two words. We keep the joined form, which is more widely printed. The opening Om appears in both sources we checked.
Some people say these lines before the Dakshinamurti stotra. We did not find a written source for that practice.
Sources: several. Where versions differ, we have noted it here.
For life today
Remembering the teacher is a humble start to learning. Saying these two lines quietly before study can settle the mind for the work.
The word niralamba invites us to look at what we lean on. The verse points to a calm that can stay steady within, without any support.
