ಶಿವನ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಮಂತ್ರ ಇದು, ರುದ್ರ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಎಂದೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶಿವಪೂಜೆ, ರುದ್ರಾಭಿಷೇಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸೋಮವಾರದ ಜಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಇತರ ದೇವತಾ ಗಾಯತ್ರಿಗಳಂತೆ ಇದೂ ಮೂರು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ: ಅರಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಅವನು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಲಿ.

ಓಂ ತತ್ಪುರುಷಾಯ ವಿದ್ಮಹೇ ಮಹಾದೇವಾಯ ಧೀಮಹಿ ।

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ತತ್ಪುರುಷಾಯ ವಿದ್ಮಹೇ (तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे, tatpuruṣāya vidmahe) = ಆ ಪರಮಪುರುಷನನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ (we come to know that supreme Person)
- ಮಹಾದೇವಾಯ ಧೀಮಹಿ (महादेवाय धीमहि, mahādevāya dhīmahi) = ಮಹಾದೇವನನ್ನು ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ (we meditate on Mahadeva)
- ತತ್ ನಃ ರುದ್ರಃ (तत् नः रुद्रः, tat naḥ rudraḥ) = ಆ ರುದ್ರನು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು (may that Rudra, us)
- ಪ್ರಚೋದಯಾತ್ (प्रचोदयात्, pracodayāt) = ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಲಿ (inspire and impel)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಆ ಪರಮಪುರುಷನನ್ನು ನಾವು ಅರಿಯುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಮಹಾದೇವನನ್ನು ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಆ ರುದ್ರನು ನಮ್ಮ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಲಿ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
We come to know that supreme Person, we meditate on Mahadeva. May that Rudra inspire our minds.

ಮಹಾನಾರಾಯಣೋಪನಿಷತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ದೇವತೆಗಳ ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಮಂತ್ರಗಳು ಒಂದರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಒಂದು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೂ ಒಂದು. ವೇದಪಾಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಸ್ವರಸಹಿತ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನನಿತ್ಯದ ಜಪಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸ್ವರಚಿಹ್ನೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
The Mahanarayana Upanishad gives gayatri mantras of several deities one after another, and this is one of them. In Vedic recitation it is chanted with accents. Here we give it without accent marks, for daily japa.
ತತ್ಪುರುಷ ಎಂಬುದು ಶಿವನ ಐದು ಮುಖಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ವದ ಕಡೆ ನೋಡುವ ಮುಖದ ಹೆಸರೂ ಹೌದು. ಗಣೇಶ, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ, ಸೂರ್ಯ, ದುರ್ಗಾ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಷ್ಣು ಗಾಯತ್ರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಈ ತಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಪುಟಗಳಿವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಗಾಯತ್ರೀ ಮಂತ್ರಗಳು ಹಣ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಏನನ್ನೂ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವು ಕೇಳುವುದು ಸರಿಯಾದ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗುವ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು. ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಉಳಿದವು ತಾವಾಗಿಯೇ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಅದರ ಹಿಂದಿದೆ.
Gayatri mantras do not ask directly for money or health. They ask for a mind that moves in the right direction, trusting that when the mind is right, the rest falls into place.
