ಯೋ ಯೋ ಯಾಂ ಯಾಂ ತನುಂ ಭಕ್ತಃ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾರ್ಚಿತುಮಿಚ್ಛತಿ।
ತಸ್ಯ ತಸ್ಯಾಚಲಾಂ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಾಂ ತಾಮೇವ ವಿದಧಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ॥ 21 ॥

यो यो यां यां तनुं भक्तः श्रद्धयार्चितुमिच्छति।
तस्य तस्याचलां श्रद्धां तामेव विदधाम्यहम् ॥ 21 ॥

tasya tasyācalāṃ śraddhāṃ tāmeva vidadhāmyaham || 21 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯಃ ಯಃ ಭಕ್ತಃ (यः यः भक्तः, yaḥ yaḥ bhaktaḥ) = ಯಾವ ಯಾವ ಭಕ್ತನು (whichever devotee)
- ಯಾಂ ಯಾಂ ತನುಂ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಯಾ ಅರ್ಚಿತುಮ್ ಇಚ್ಛತಿ (यां यां तनुं श्रद्धया अर्चितुम् इच्छति, yāṃ yāṃ tanuṃ śraddhayā arcitum icchati) = ಯಾವ ಯಾವ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಪೂಜಿಸಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾನೋ (whatever form he wishes to worship with faith)
- ತಸ್ಯ ತಸ್ಯ ತಾಮ್ ಏವ ಶ್ರದ್ಧಾಮ್ (तस्य तस्य ताम् एव श्रद्धाम्, tasya tasya tām eva śraddhām) = ಅವನವನ ಆ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯನ್ನೇ (that very faith of each)
- ಅಚಲಾಂ ವಿದಧಾಮಿ ಅಹಮ್ (अचलां विदधामि अहम्, acalāṃ vidadhāmi aham) = ನಾನು ಅಚಲವಾಗಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ (I make steady)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯಾವ ಭಕ್ತನು ಯಾವ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಪೂಜಿಸಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾನೋ, ಅವನವನ ಆ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯನ್ನೇ ನಾನು ಅಚಲವಾಗಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Whatever form any devotee wishes to worship with faith, I make that very faith of his steady.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 7.21ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 7.21
ಇದು ಗೀತೆಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಉದಾರವಾದ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು. ಬೇರೆ ದೇವತೆಯನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುವವನ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು ಭಗವಂತ ಮುರಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಅದನ್ನೇ ಗಟ್ಟಿಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
This is one of the most generous verses of the Gita. The Lord does not break the faith of one who worships another deity; he makes that very faith firm.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ತನು’ ಎಂದರೆ ‘ದೇವತಾತನು’, ದೇವತೆಯ ರೂಪ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಯಾವ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಅವನು ಸ್ವಭಾವತಃ ಮೊದಲು ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತನಾದನೋ, ಅದನ್ನೇ ನಾನು ಸ್ಥಿರಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಅವರ ವಿವರಣೆ.
Shankara takes ‘tanu’ as ‘devatatanu’, the form of a deity. The faith with which a person first set out by his own nature, that very faith, the Lord says, I make steady.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಅರ್ಥ ಇನ್ನೂ ಆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂದ್ರ ಮೊದಲಾದ ದೇವತೆಗಳೂ ಭಗವಂತನ ‘ತನು’, ಶರೀರಗಳೇ, ‘ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಆದಿತ್ಯ ಶರೀರವೋ’ ಎಂಬ ಬೃಹದಾರಣ್ಯಕದ ಮಾತು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಧಾರ. ಪೂಜಿಸುವವನಿಗೆ ಇದು ತಿಳಿಯದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅವನ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ ವಾಸ್ತವದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಶರೀರದ ಕಡೆಗೇ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಭಗವಂತ ಅದನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಿಘ್ನವಾಗಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Ramanuja’s reading goes deeper still. Indra and the other deities are themselves the Lord’s ‘tanu’, his bodies, as the Brihadaranyaka says of ‘him whose body is the sun’. Even if the worshipper does not know this, the Lord, knowing that the faith is in truth directed at his own body, makes it free of obstacles.
ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ತನು’ ಎಂದರೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾದಿ ದೇವತೆಗಳ ರೂಪ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ‘ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾದಿ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಅಂತ್ಯವಿದೆ, ನನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಅನಂತತೆ’ ಎಂಬ ನಾರದೀಯದ ವಚನವನ್ನು ಅವರು ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಉದ್ಧರಿಸಿ ಮುಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಫಲಭೇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Madhva takes ‘tanu’ as the forms of Brahma and the other deities. He quotes a line of the Naradiya here, ‘for the devotees of Brahma and the rest there is an end, for my devotees endlessness’, preparing for the difference in fruit that the next verses describe.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ರೋಗಿಗಳು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕೆಲವರ ಕೊರಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಾಯಿತ, ಕೆಲವರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಪಮಾಲೆ, ಕೆಲವರ ದಿಂಬಿನಡಿ ಒಂದು ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ಆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಧೈರ್ಯ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿಯಾಗದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಆರೈಕೆಯ ಭಾಗ.
Patients of many faiths come to hospital. An amulet at one person’s throat, a rosary in another’s hand, a small book under a third one’s pillow. If that faith gives them courage and does not stand in the way of treatment, respecting it is part of good care.
ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು ಅಲುಗಾಡಿಸುವುದು ಸುಲಭ, ಅದನ್ನು ಗಟ್ಟಿಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಗವಂತ ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಎರಡನೆಯ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು.
Shaking another’s faith is easy; strengthening it is hard. In this verse the Lord chooses the second path.
