ಋಗ್ವೇದದ ಹತ್ತನೇ ಮಂಡಲದ 184ನೇ ಸೂಕ್ತದ ಮೊದಲ ಮಂತ್ರ ಇದು. ಸಂತಾನದ ಹಾರೈಕೆಗಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುವ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪಾದದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ.
ವಿಷ್ಣು, ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾ, ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಧಾತಾ ಎಂಬ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ತಾಯ್ತನಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಗರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಇರಿಸಲಿ ಎಂದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಗರ್ಭಾಧಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಪುಂಸವನದಂತಹ ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವ ಪರಂಪರೆ ಇದೆ.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವಿಷ್ಣುರ್ಯೋನಿಂ ಕಲ್ಪಯತು ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾ ರೂಪಾಣಿ ಪಿಂಶತು ।
ಆ ಸಿಂಚತು ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿರ್ಧಾತಾ ಗರ್ಭಂ ದಧಾತು ತೇ ॥

विष्णुर्योनिं कल्पयतु त्वष्टा रूपाणि पिंशतु ।
आ सिंचतु प्रजापतिर्धाता गर्भं दधातु ते ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ವಿಷ್ಣುರ್ಯೋನಿಂ (विष्णुर्योनिं, viṣṇuryoniṃ) = ವಿಷ್ಣು ಯೋನಿಯನ್ನು (ವಿಷ್ಣುಃ + ಯೋನಿಂ) (Vishnu, the womb (vishnuh + yonim))
- ಕಲ್ಪಯತು (कल्पयतु, kalpayatu) = ಸಿದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸಲಿ (may he prepare)
- ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾ (त्वष्टा, tvaṣṭā) = ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾ ದೇವನು, ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸುವ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿ (Tvashta, the divine shaper of forms)
- ರೂಪಾಣಿ (रूपाणि, rūpāṇi) = ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು (the forms)
- ಪಿಂಶತು (पिंशतु, piṃśatu) = ಕಡೆದು ರೂಪಿಸಲಿ (may he fashion)
- ಆ ಸಿಂಚತು (आ सिंचतु, ā siṃcatu) = ಸಿಂಚಿಸಲಿ, ಇರಿಸಲಿ (may he pour in, may he bestow)
- ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿರ್ಧಾತಾ (प्रजापतिर्धाता, prajāpatirdhātā) = ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಧಾತಾ (ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಃ + ಧಾತಾ) (Prajapati and Dhata (prajapatih + dhata))
- ಗರ್ಭಂ (गर्भं, garbhaṃ) = ಗರ್ಭವನ್ನು (the embryo)
- ದಧಾತು (दधातु, dadhātu) = ಇರಿಸಲಿ (may he place)
- ತೇ (ते, te) = ನಿನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ (in you)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ವಿಷ್ಣು ತಾಯ್ತನಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಗರ್ಭಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಸಿದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸಲಿ. ತ್ವಷ್ಟಾ ದೇವನು ಮಗುವಿನ ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡೆದು ರೂಪಿಸಲಿ. ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಯು ಆ ಬೀಜವನ್ನು ಸಿಂಚಿಸಲಿ. ಧಾತಾ ನಿನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಗರ್ಭವನ್ನು ಇರಿಸಲಿ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
May Vishnu make the womb ready. May Tvashta shape the forms. May Prajapati pour in the seed. May Dhata place the child in you.
ಈ ಮಂತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this mantra
ಇದು ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ ದಂಪತಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುವ ಹಾರೈಕೆಯ ಮಂತ್ರ. ಸಂತಾನ ಒಂದು ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಂತ್ರದ ಭಾಷೆ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಕಾಲದ ಜೈವಿಕ ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸಿದೆ.
This is a blessing said for a couple who wish for children. It treats a child as a blessing. Its language follows the biological understanding of ancient times.
ಅಥರ್ವವೇದದ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೇ ಪದಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಋಗ್ವೇದ ಸೂಕ್ತದ ಉಳಿದ ಮಂತ್ರಗಳು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಮಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
The Atharvaveda version has the same words. The remaining verses of the Rigveda hymn complement it. Here we take only the first verse.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ ಮನೆಗೆ ಕಾಯುವಿಕೆ ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಭಾರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಮಂತ್ರ ಆ ಹಾರೈಕೆಗೆ ಶಾಂತಿಯ ಮಾತು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಕೂಡಿ ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ಒಡನಾಟ ಗಾಢವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
For a family that longs for children, waiting can feel heavy. This mantra gives that wish a calm voice. Saying it together can deepen the bond between partners.
ಗರ್ಭಧಾರಣೆ ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ನೆರವಿನಿಂದ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ವೈದ್ಯರ ಸಲಹೆ ಮತ್ತು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗೆ ಬದಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಂತಾನ ತಡವಾದರೆ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಸ್ತ್ರೀರೋಗ ಅಥವಾ ಫಲವತ್ತತೆ ತಜ್ಞರನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದು ಯಾರ ತಪ್ಪೂ ಅಲ್ಲ.
For some, conception is possible only with medical help. So this prayer does not replace a doctor’s advice and treatment. If it is delayed, both partners should see a fertility specialist. Not having children is nobody’s fault.
