ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಸ ಏವಾಯಂ ಮಯಾ ತೇಽದ್ಯ ಯೋಗಃ ಪ್ರೋಕ್ತಃ ಪುರಾತನಃ।
ಭಕ್ತೋಽಸಿ ಮೇ ಸಖಾ ಚೇತಿ ರಹಸ್ಯಂ ಹ್ಯೇತದುತ್ತಮಮ್ ॥ 3 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः।
भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् ॥ 3 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
sa evāyaṃ mayā te’dya yogaḥ proktaḥ purātanaḥ|
bhakto’si me sakhā ceti rahasyaṃ hyetaduttamam || 3 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಸಃ ಏವ ಅಯಮ್ (सः एव अयम्, saḥ eva ayam) = ಅದೇ ಈ (that very same)
- ಪುರಾತನಃ ಯೋಗಃ (पुरातनः योगः, purātanaḥ yogaḥ) = ಪುರಾತನ ಯೋಗ (ancient yoga)
- ಮಯಾ ತೇ ಅದ್ಯ ಪ್ರೋಕ್ತಃ (मया ते अद्य प्रोक्तः, mayā te adya proktaḥ) = ನನ್ನಿಂದ ನಿನಗೆ ಇಂದು ಹೇಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು (has been told to you by me today)
- ಭಕ್ತಃ ಅಸಿ ಮೇ ಸಖಾ ಚ (भक्तः असि मे सखा च, bhaktaḥ asi me sakhā ca) = ನೀನು ನನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತನೂ ಸಖನೂ ಆಗಿರುವೆ (you are my devotee and friend)
- ಇತಿ (इति, iti) = ಎಂದು (so)
- ರಹಸ್ಯಮ್ ಹಿ ಏತತ್ ಉತ್ತಮಮ್ (रहस्यम् हि एतत् उत्तमम्, rahasyam hi etat uttamam) = ಇದು ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ರಹಸ್ಯವಲ್ಲವೇ (for this is the highest secret)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅದೇ ಈ ಪುರಾತನ ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಇಂದು ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀನು ನನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತನೂ ಸಖನೂ ಆಗಿರುವೆ. ಇದು ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ರಹಸ್ಯ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
That same ancient yoga I have told you today, because you are my devotee and my friend. This is the highest secret.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 4.3ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 4.3
ಪರಂಪರೆ ತುಂಡಾದಾಗ ಅದೇ ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಸಂಬಂಧ ಜೋಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ‘ನೀನು ನನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತನೂ ಸಖನೂ ಆಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಹೇಳಿದೆ, ಬೇರೆಯವರಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂಬುದು ಅವರ ಓದು.
Sridhara Swami makes the connection: with the line broken, Krishna tells the same yoga again. His reading is ‘I have told it to you because you are my devotee and friend, and I do not tell it to others.’
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ರಹಸ್ಯ’ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ನೇರ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಈ ಯೋಗ, ಅಂದರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನ. ಅದು ಉತ್ತಮ ರಹಸ್ಯವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಹೇಳುವಂಥದ್ದಲ್ಲ.
Shankara gives ‘secret’ a direct meaning: this yoga, that is, knowledge. Because it is the highest secret, it is not something to be told to everyone.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಅರ್ಹತೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಒತ್ತು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸಖ್ಯದಿಂದಲೂ ಅತಿಶಯವಾದ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದಲೂ ತನ್ನನ್ನೇ ಶರಣು ಹೊಂದಿದವನಿಗೆ ಭಗವಂತ ಈ ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಅದರ ಎಲ್ಲ ಅಂಗಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅದು ವೇದಾಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ಉತ್ತಮ ರಹಸ್ಯ, ಅವನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಪೂರ್ತಿ ತಿಳಿಯಲೂ ಹೇಳಲೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ.
Ramanuja stresses the qualification. To one who has taken refuge in him with friendship and with exceeding devotion, the Lord has taught this yoga in full detail, with all its parts. It is the highest secret declared in the Vedanta, which no one other than he can fully know or tell.
ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕಾದ್ದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಅರ್ಹತೆ. ಅದು ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯವಲ್ಲ, ವಂಶವಲ್ಲ. ಭಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ನೇಹ.
What deserves notice is the qualification given here. It is not learning, and not lineage. It is devotion and friendship.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಆಳವಾದ ಮಾತುಗಳು ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಬಂಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಪೂರ್ತಿ ತಲುಪುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೇಳುವವನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುವವನ ಮೇಲೆ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸವಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಸಲಹೆಯೂ ಗಾಳಿಗೆ ತೂರಿದಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
Deep things reach a listener fully only within a relationship of trust. If the listener does not trust the speaker, even the best advice is scattered to the wind.
ಕಷ್ಟದ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದಾಗ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಮೊದಲು ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವುದು ಇದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ. ‘ರಹಸ್ಯ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಬಚ್ಚಿಟ್ಟದ್ದಲ್ಲ, ಸಿದ್ಧವಾದ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಎಂದೂ ನಾವು ಓದಬಹುದು.
This is why doctors, when they have hard news to give, try first to build a relationship. We may also read ‘secret’ not as something hidden, but as something that opens only to a mind that is ready.
