ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 9.2 ಅರ್ಥ: ರಾಜವಿದ್ಯಾ ರಾಜಗುಹ್ಯಂ

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಿಂದಲೇ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ‘ರಾಜವಿದ್ಯಾ ರಾಜಗುಹ್ಯ ಯೋಗ’ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ರಾಜ’ ಪದವನ್ನು ಹೊಳಪಿನ ಅರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಿದ್ಯೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿದ್ಯೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಶಯವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಜನ್ಮಗಳ ಕರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಬೇರುಸಹಿತ ಒಂದೇ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಅದರ ಪಾವಿತ್ರ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದ್ದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ‘ಸುಸುಖಂ ಕರ್ತುಂ’ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ರತ್ನಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಉಪಮೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

The chapter takes its name, Raja Vidya Raja Guhya Yoga, from this verse. Shankara explains ‘raja’ in the sense of radiance: the knowledge of Brahman shines above all other knowledge. Since it burns the karma of thousands of births to the root in a single moment, nothing more need be said of its purity. For ‘susukham kartum’ he gives the image of the knowledge that tells one gem from another.

ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ‘ರಾಜರ ವಿದ್ಯೆ’. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜರು ಎಂದರೆ ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ, ಆಳವಾದ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಮಹಾಮನಸ್ಕರು. ‘ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷಾವಗಮ’ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರ ಅರ್ಥ, ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಉಪಾಸನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗಲೇ ಭಗವಂತ ಉಪಾಸಕನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಫಲಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕಾಯಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ, ಸಾಧನೆಯೇ ಸುಖ.

Ramanuja gives another sense as well: ‘the knowledge of kings’, where kings are the great-minded, those of vast and deep minds. By ‘pratyakshavagama’ he means that even while one worships with devotion, the Lord becomes present to the worshipper. There is no waiting for the fruit, the practice itself is joy.

ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷ’ ಪದವನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿ ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಅಕ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲೂ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವವನು. ಅಂಥ ಅಂತರ್ಯಾಮಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುವ ವಿದ್ಯೆ ಇದು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಬೃಹದಾರಣ್ಯಕದ ಅಂತರ್ಯಾಮಿ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣವನ್ನು ಆಧಾರವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Madhva reads ‘pratyaksha’ by taking it apart: the one who dwells in each of the ‘akshas’, the senses. This is the knowledge by which that indwelling Brahman is known. He cites the Brihadaranyaka’s section on the inner controller in support.

‘ಆಚರಿಸಲು ಸುಲಭ’ ಮತ್ತು ‘ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಅನುಭವಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವುದು’ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ಗುಣಗಳು ಯಾವುದೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸದ ಗುಟ್ಟು. ಕಷ್ಟದ, ಫಲ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಜನ ಕೆಲವು ವಾರಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಕೈಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

‘Easy to practise’ and ‘directly experienced’ are the secret of any good habit. Many people abandon hard habits whose results show late within a few weeks.

ನಡಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಹಗುರಾಗುವುದು ಅಂದೇ ಅನುಭವಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ, ಸಕ್ಕರೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಕ್ತದೊತ್ತಡದ ಲಾಭ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸುಖವನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುವುದು ಅಭ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ನೆರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

The lightness of mind a walk brings is felt the same day, while the gain in blood sugar and blood pressure shows slowly. Noticing the small pleasure that comes at the start helps a habit last.
