ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 5.29 ಅರ್ಥ: ಭೋಕ್ತಾರಂ ಯಜ್ಞತಪಸಾಂ

ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಅದು ಮುಗಿಯುವುದು ಒಂದು ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಪದದಿಂದ: ‘ಸುಹೃತ್’. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಅದನ್ನು ಪ್ರತ್ಯುಪಕಾರ ಬಯಸದೆ ಉಪಕಾರ ಮಾಡುವವನು ಎಂದು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ‘ನಾನು’ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಕರ್ಮಫಲಗಳ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾದ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಅರಿವಿಗೂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾದ ನಾರಾಯಣ. ಅವನನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದವನು ಸಂಸಾರದಿಂದ ಪೂರ್ಣ ವಿರಾಮ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.

The chapter ends here, and it ends with an intimate word: ‘suhrt’, friend. Shankara opens it as one who does good without expecting anything in return. For him the ‘me’ here is Narayana, dwelling in every heart, presiding over the fruits of all actions, witness of every cognition. One who knows him attains complete rest from samsara.

ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಿಂದ ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗ ಏಕೆ ಸುಲಭ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಕಾರಣ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಗೆಳೆಯನನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಿಸಲು ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದಲೇ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಲೋಕೇಶ್ವರರಿಗೂ ಈಶ್ವರನಾದವನೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಸುಹೃತ್ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದರೆ ಕರ್ಮಯೋಗ ಅವನ ಆರಾಧನೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಅದನ್ನು ಸುಖವಾಗಿಯೇ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ‘ಈಶ್ವರರಿಗೂ ಪರಮ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರ’ ಎಂಬ ಶ್ವೇತಾಶ್ವತರದ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಅವರು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Ramanuja draws from this verse a warm reason why the yoga of action is easy. Everyone works gladly to please a friend. If we know that the Lord of all the lords of the worlds is our friend, the yoga of action becomes his worship, and it can be done with joy. He cites the Shvetashvatara’s ‘the supreme great Lord of lords’.

ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಸಂಯಮ ಮಾತ್ರದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆಯೇ? ಇಲ್ಲ, ಈ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೂಲಕ, ಭಗವಂತನ ಪ್ರಸಾದದಿಂದ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಎರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳ ಧ್ಯಾನದ ‘ಧ್ಯೇಯ’ವನ್ನು, ಅಂದರೆ ಯಾರನ್ನು ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು, ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

Sridhara Swami answers a question: does liberation come from restraint of the senses alone? No, through this knowledge, by the Lord’s grace. For Madhva this verse names the object of the meditation of the last two verses, that is, whom one is to meditate upon.

ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಇರುವವರನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ದೂರದಿಂದ, ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಭಯದಿಂದ ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಲೋಕಗಳ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರನೇ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಗೆಳೆಯ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಭಯದಿಂದ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೂ ಇರುವ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

We usually look at those in power from a distance, and with a little fear. Here the great Lord of all the worlds calls himself a friend. The difference between work done in fear and work done in love lies here.

ಪ್ರತಿಫಲ ಬಯಸದೆ ಉಪಕಾರ ಮಾಡುವ ಗೆಳೆಯರು ನಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬಿಬ್ಬರಾದರೂ ಇರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರ ನೆನಪೇ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂಥ ಸುಹೃತ್ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಈ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಮಾತು.

Most of us have one or two friends in our lives who help without wanting anything back. Just remembering them brings a certain peace. That such a friend exists for everyone is the last word of this chapter.
