ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಾನುವಾಚ
ಭೂಯ ಏವ ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ ಶೃಣು ಮೇ ಪರಮಂ ವಚಃ।
ಯತ್ತೇಽಹಂ ಪ್ರೀಯಮಾಣಾಯ ವಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಹಿತಕಾಮ್ಯಯಾ ॥ 1 ॥

भूय एव महाबाहो शृणु मे परमं वचः।
यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया ॥ 1 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)

bhūya eva mahābāho śṛṇu me paramaṃ vacaḥ|
yatte’haṃ prīyamāṇāya vakṣyāmi hitakāmyayā || 1 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಾನ್ ಉವಾಚ (श्रीभगवान् उवाच, śrībhagavān uvāca) = ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಂತನು ಹೇಳಿದನು (the Blessed Lord said)
- ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ (महाबाहो, mahābāho) = ಮಹಾಬಾಹುವೇ (O mighty-armed one)
- ಭೂಯಃ ಏವ ಮೇ ಪರಮಂ ವಚಃ ಶೃಣು (भूयः एव मे परमं वचः शृणु, bhūyaḥ eva me paramaṃ vacaḥ śṛṇu) = ಮತ್ತೆಯೂ ನನ್ನ ಪರಮ ವಚನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳು (hear again my supreme word)
- ಯತ್ ಪ್ರೀಯಮಾಣಾಯ ತೇ (यत् प्रीयमाणाय ते, yat prīyamāṇāya te) = ಕೇಳಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಿನಗೆ ಯಾವುದನ್ನು (which, to you who delight in it)
- ಅಹಂ ಹಿತಕಾಮ್ಯಯಾ ವಕ್ಷ್ಯಾಮಿ (अहं हितकाम्यया वक्ष्यामि, ahaṃ hitakāmyayā vakṣyāmi) = ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಬಯಸಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ (I shall speak, wishing your good)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಶ್ರೀಭಗವಂತನು ಹೇಳಿದನು: ಮಹಾಬಾಹುವೇ, ಮತ್ತೆಯೂ ನನ್ನ ಪರಮ ವಚನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳು. ಕೇಳಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಿನಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಬಯಸಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
The Blessed Lord said: Hear again, O mighty-armed one, my supreme word, which I shall speak to you who delight in it, wishing your good.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 10.1ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 10.1
ಹತ್ತನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ ವಿಭೂತಿಗಳ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಅದರ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಏಳನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ‘ರಸೋಽಹಮಪ್ಸು’, ಎಂಟನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ‘ಅಧಿಯಜ್ಞೋಽಹಮ್’, ಒಂಬತ್ತನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ‘ಅಹಂ ಕ್ರತುಃ’ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಕ್ಷೇಪವಾಗಿ ಬಂದ ವಿಭೂತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಒಂದೇ: ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆಯೂ ಈಶ್ವರನನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದು.
The tenth chapter is the chapter of glories. Sridhara Swami states its place well: the glories given briefly in the seventh chapter’s ‘raso ‘ham apsu’, the eighth chapter’s ‘adhiyajno ‘ham’ and the ninth chapter’s ‘aham kratuh’ are unfolded here by Krishna. The purpose is one: to see the Lord everywhere.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಪ್ರೀಯಮಾಣಾಯ’ ಪದದ ಭಾವವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ: ನನ್ನ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಅಮೃತದಂತೆ ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತಾ ನೀನು ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀಯೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಹಿತ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಭಕ್ತಿ ಹುಟ್ಟುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದು. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಉದ್ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಉಪಾಸನೆಗಾಗಿ ವಿಭೂತಿಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಕೆಲವು ವಸ್ತುಗಳು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿಸುವುದು.
Shankara catches the feeling of the word ‘priyamanaya’: you delight in my words as though drinking nectar, and so I speak again. For Ramanuja the ‘good’ meant here is the birth and growth of devotion. Madhva states the purpose of the chapter: to teach the glories for the sake of worship, and the reason why certain things stand out as special.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕ ಕೇಳುವವನ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಕಂಡು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ: ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಆನಂದವೇ ಮುಂದಿನ ಉಪದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ.
A good teacher, seeing the listener’s eagerness, says more. So it is with Krishna here: Arjuna’s delight is the very reason for the teaching that follows.
ಕೇಳುವುದು ಕೂಡ ಒಂದು ಕೊಡುಗೆ. ವೈದ್ಯರ ಸಲಹೆಯಾಗಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಮಾತಾಗಲಿ, ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಕೇಳುವವರಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುವವರು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬಿಚ್ಚಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಲು ನಾವು ಸಂಕೋಚಪಡಬಾರದು.
Listening is also a gift. Whether it is a doctor’s advice or an elder’s word, the speaker opens up more to one who listens with interest. We should not be shy of asking questions.
