ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥಃ ಸರ್ವವೃಕ್ಷಾಣಾಂ ದೇವರ್ಷೀಣಾಂ ಚ ನಾರದಃ।
ಗಂಧರ್ವಾಣಾಂ ಚಿತ್ರರಥಃ ಸಿದ್ಧಾನಾಂ ಕಪಿಲೋ ಮುನಿಃ ॥ 26 ॥

अश्वत्थः सर्ववृक्षाणां देवर्षीणां च नारदः।
गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथः सिद्धानां कपिलो मुनिः ॥ 26 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಸರ್ವವೃಕ್ಷಾಣಾಮ್ ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥಃ (सर्ववृक्षाणाम् अश्वत्थः, sarvavṛkṣāṇām aśvatthaḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲ ಮರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥ (among all trees the ashvattha)

Among all trees I am the ashvattha, among divine sages Narada. Among the gandharvas I am Chitraratha, among the perfected ones the sage Kapila.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 10.26ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 10.26
ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥ, ಅಂದರೆ ಅರಳಿ ಮರ, ಪೂಜ್ಯವಾದ ಮರ ಎಂದು ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹದಿನೈದನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ ಸಂಸಾರವನ್ನೇ ತಲೆಕೆಳಗಾದ ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥ ವೃಕ್ಷವಾಗಿ ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ‘ದೇವರ್ಷಿ’ ಪದವನ್ನು ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ದೇವತೆಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದೂ ಮಂತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡುದರಿಂದ ಋಷಿತ್ವ ಪಡೆದವರು. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ನಾರದನನ್ನು ‘ಪರಮ ವೈಷ್ಣವ’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಚಿತ್ರರಥ ದೇವಗಾಯಕರಾದ ಗಂಧರ್ವರಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ.
Ramanuja calls the ashvattha, the peepal, the tree worthy of worship. The fifteenth chapter describes samsara itself as an upside-down ashvattha tree. Shankara explains ‘devarshi’: those who, being gods, became sages by seeing the mantras. Ramanuja calls Narada ‘the supreme Vaishnava’. Chitraratha is the foremost of the gandharvas, the singers of the gods.
‘ಸಿದ್ಧರು’ ಯಾರು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ: ಹುಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಧರ್ಮ, ಜ್ಞಾನ, ವೈರಾಗ್ಯ, ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಗಳ ಅತಿಶಯ ಪಡೆದವರು. ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಪಿಲ ಮುನಿ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಕಪಿಲ ಯೋಗನಿಷ್ಠರಿಗೆ ಪರಮ ಉಪಾಸ್ಯ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತಾರು ಮತ್ತು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೇಳನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬಿಡಿಸಿ, ‘ಕಪಿಲ’ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಅರ್ಥ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ‘ಕ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಸುಖ, ಸುಖರೂಪನಾದ, ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ತನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಲಯಗೊಳಿಸುವವನು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಛಾಂದೋಗ್ಯದ ‘ಕಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ’ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ವೇತಾಶ್ವತರದ ‘ಋಷಿಂ ಪ್ರಸೂತಂ ಕಪಿಲಂ’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Shankara explains who the ‘siddhas’ are: those who by birth itself attained surpassing dharma, knowledge, dispassion and power. Among them is the sage Kapila. For Ramanuja Kapila is the one supremely worthy of worship for those devoted to yoga. Madhva explains verses twenty-six and twenty-seven together and gives the meaning of the name ‘Kapila’: ‘ka’ means joy, the one whose nature is joy, who protects the world and draws it back into himself. For this he quotes the Chandogya’s ‘kam brahma’ and the Shvetashvatara’s ‘rishim prasutam kapilam’.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಅರಳಿ ಮರ ನೂರಾರು ವರ್ಷ ಬದುಕುತ್ತದೆ, ಅಸಂಖ್ಯ ಜೀವಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೆರಳು, ಆಹಾರ, ಗೂಡು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಅರಳಿ ಮರದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಊರಿನ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಸೇರುವ ದೃಶ್ಯ ನಮಗೆ ಪರಿಚಿತ.
The peepal lives for hundreds of years and gives shade, food and shelter to countless creatures. The sight of village elders gathering on the platform under the peepal tree is familiar to us.
ಮರ ನೆಡುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಇರುವ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವುದು ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಬದುಕುವ ಒಂದು ರೀತಿ. ಹಸಿರಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಕಳೆಯುವ ಸಮಯ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಒತ್ತಡವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅನೇಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಗಳು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.
Planting trees and saving the ones we have is one way of living this verse. Many studies suggest that time spent among greenery lowers mental stress.
