Context and commentary on verse 10.12
Here Arjuna speaks in the chapter. Sridhara Swami marks the seven verses from twelve to eighteen as his praise and his request. This verse and the next form one sentence. Shankara explains the words directly: ‘param brahma’ is the supreme Self, ‘param dhama’ the supreme light, ‘adideva’ the one who was before all the gods, ‘vibhu’ the one who pervades everything.
For Ramanuja Arjuna’s words echo the Upanishads: the Taittiriya’s word that Brahman is that from which beings are born, ‘brahmavid apnoti param’, and others. The one whom scripture calls the supreme Brahman is you. Madhva explains verses twelve to fifteen together. For him ‘Brahman’ means the perfectly full, from the root ‘brih’, to grow. ‘Vibhu’ means the one who became manifold, as in the scripture ‘bahu syam’, may I become many.

When the learner expresses appreciation and gratitude, the teacher is glad. Before asking a new question, Arjuna first accepts and praises what he has heard.
This is a good way to converse: first say back in our own words what we heard, then ask the next question. Repeating a doctor’s advice back like this before going home helps prevent mistakes with medicines.
