Context and commentary on verse 10.41
This verse is the key to the whole list. Wherever excellence is seen, even in something not named in the list, it should be understood as a portion of his splendour. Sridhara Swami says that to Arjuna, who still longs to hear more, Krishna gives everything in a single rule. For Shankara ‘shrimat’ is endowed with Lakshmi, ‘urjita’ full of vigour. For Ramanuja ‘urjita’ means engaged in good undertakings, and ‘tejas’ is a part of his inconceivable power of governance.
Madhva makes an important distinction here. Vishnu and the others in the list, forms such as Rama, Krishna, Vyasa and Kapila, are his own very forms. Deities such as Rudra and Indra, and kings, are other souls endowed with a portion of his splendour. For this he quotes the Paingi Khila. So the acharyas each see the same list through the eye of their own philosophy. It is not the work of this page to decide which of these readings is right.

For life today
This verse teaches a way of seeing: wherever we see talent, beauty or strength, respect instead of envy. That too is a spark of light from the one source.
It applies to our own abilities too. If we see them as a gift rather than priding ourselves on them as ‘mine’, humility in success and calm in failure come more easily.
