ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 10.42 ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಥವಾ ಬಹುನೈತೇನ

ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇಡೀ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಒಂದು ವಾಕ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪುರುಷಸೂಕ್ತದ ‘ಪಾದೋಽಸ್ಯ ವಿಶ್ವಾ ಭೂತಾನಿ’, ಎಲ್ಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳೂ ಅವನ ಒಂದು ಪಾದ, ಎಂಬ ಮಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ‘ಏಕಾಂಶ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಂದು ಅವಯವ, ಒಂದು ಪಾದ, ಎಲ್ಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳೂ ಇದೇ ಶ್ರುತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಬಿಡಿಬಿಡಿಯಾದ ಈ ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಏನು, ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಸಮದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನೇ ಬೆಳೆಸು.

The last verse of the chapter holds the whole list in one sentence. Shankara quotes for it the Purusha Sukta mantra ‘pado ‘sya vishva bhutani’, all beings are one quarter of him. For him ‘ekamsha’ means one part, one quarter, in the form of all beings. Sridhara Swami gives the same scripture and says: what use is this piecemeal knowledge, cultivate an equal vision everywhere.

ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಅಳತೆಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಹಿಗ್ಗಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಚೇತನ ಅಚೇತನಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ, ಸ್ಥೂಲ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಎರಡೂ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಳ ಈ ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪವನ್ನು ಮೀರದಂತೆ ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಮಹಿಮೆಯ ಹತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರದ ಹತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರದ ಒಂದು ಅಂಶದಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಒಂದು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ‘ನಿನಗೇನು’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದರ ಫಲವನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಗಳೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಮುಂದೆ ಹೇಳುವುದರ ಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ‘ಏಕಾಂಶ’ದ ಮಾತು ಮುಂದಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ವಿಶ್ವರೂಪ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಗಿಲು ತೆರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

Ramanuja enlarges the measure further: this whole world of the sentient and the insentient, in both its gross and subtle states, he holds with one part in ten thousand times ten thousand of his greatness, so that it never goes beyond his will. Madhva adds a caution: the words ‘what use to you’ do not deny the fruit of what was said, they show the importance of what is to follow. This word about ‘a single fraction’ opens the door to the vision of the cosmic form in the next chapter.

ಇಷ್ಟು ದೀರ್ಘ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ನಂತರ ‘ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲ ತಿಳಿದು ನಿನಗೇನು?’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಒಂದು ಮುಗುಳ್ನಗೆಯಂತೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿ, ಗುರಿ ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಒಂದೇ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದು.

After so long a list, the words ‘what use to you is knowing all this?’ come like a smile. The list trains the mind, and the goal is to see one truth everywhere.

ನಮ್ಮ ಇಡೀ ವಿಶ್ವ ಅವನ ಒಂದು ಅಂಶ ಮಾತ್ರ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ನಮ್ಮ ಚಿಂತೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಅಳತೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ದೊಡ್ಡದೆನಿಸುವ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳೂ ಆ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಮುಂದೆ ಹಗುರವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಹತ್ತನೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಪಾಠ ಹೀಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ವಿಶಾಲತೆಯನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತದೆ.

The thought that our whole universe is only a fraction of him gives our worries their true measure. Even problems that seem huge grow lighter before that picture. In this way the teaching of the tenth chapter brings breadth to the mind.
