Context and commentary on verse 10.39
Here the list reaches its summary. Shankara calls the ‘seed’ the cause of sprouting. For him the second line sums up the glories: if I withdraw, anything becomes soulless and empty. So everything has me as its Self.
Ramanuja links this verse to verse twenty: the list that began with ‘aham atma gudakesha’ ends here in the same spirit. He is the seed of all beings in every state, visible and invisible. Without him as their Self, nothing exists. Madhva quotes the hymn from the Mokshadharma that begins ‘vishvarupa, anantagate’.
Sources: several. Where commentators differ, both readings are given here.

The seventh chapter too said ‘bijam mam sarvabhutanam’ (7.10). A seed is small, and the possibility within it is boundless.
Every child is like a seed. With good nourishment, love and education, the possibility within it blossoms. Medicine tells us that nutrition in the first thousand days, from pregnancy to the age of two, matters greatly for a child’s growth.
