ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 10.36 ಅರ್ಥ: ದ್ಯೂತಂ ಛಲಯತಾಮಸ್ಮಿ

ಈ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯ ಮಾತು: ‘ದ್ಯೂತಂ ಛಲಯತಾಮಸ್ಮಿ’, ವಂಚಿಸುವವರಲ್ಲಿ ಜೂಜು ನಾನು. ಜೂಜಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಪಾಂಡವರು ರಾಜ್ಯ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡರು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೆನೆದರೆ ಇದು ಇನ್ನೂ ಅಚ್ಚರಿ. ಆಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇದನ್ನು ನೇರವಾಗಿಯೇ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ದ್ಯೂತ ದಾಳ ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳ ಆಟ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ವಂಚನೆಯ ಸಾಧನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಳದ ಜೂಜು. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ವಂಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದವರ ಜೂಜು.

The most surprising word of this chapter: ‘dyutam chhalayatam asmi’, of the deceitful I am the gamble. Remembering that the Pandavas lost their kingdom through gambling makes it more surprising still. The acharyas explain it directly. For Shankara dyuta is the game of dice and the like. For Ramanuja it is the dice game among the means of deceit. For Sridhara Swami it is the gambling of those bent on cheating one another.

ಇದರ ಅರ್ಥವೇನು? ಹತ್ತೊಂಬತ್ತನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಹೇಳಿದ ‘ಪ್ರಾಧಾನ್ಯ’, ಉತ್ಕರ್ಷ, ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸೂತ್ರ: ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಬಲವಾದದ್ದು. ವಂಚನೆಯ ವಿಧಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಬಲವಾದದ್ದು ಜೂಜು. ಅನೇಕರು ಇದನ್ನು ಜೂಜಿನ ಸಮರ್ಥನೆಯಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಯಾವುದೂ ಅವನ ನಿಯಮನದ ಹೊರಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಉಳಿದ ಪದಗಳು ಸರಳ: ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಭಾವ, ಗೆಲ್ಲುವವರ ಜಯ, ಉದ್ಯಮಿಗಳ ಉದ್ಯಮ, ಸಾತ್ತ್ವಿಕರ ಸತ್ತ್ವ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಸತ್ತ್ವ’ ಮಹಾಮನಸ್ಕತೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.

What does it mean? The principle Ramanuja stated at verse nineteen, ‘pradhanya’, excellence, applies here too: the most powerful of each kind. Among the ways of deceit, gambling is the most powerful. Many do not take this as a defence of gambling, but as saying that nothing lies outside his governance. The other words are simple: the power of the brilliant, the victory of the victorious, the effort of the enterprising, the goodness of the good. For Ramanuja ‘sattva’ is greatness of mind. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

The power of gambling brought down even the Pandavas. Today it has come into every home in the form of betting games on mobile phones.

ಜೂಜಿನ ಚಟ ಒಂದು ನಿಜವಾದ ಕಾಯಿಲೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಸಾಲ, ಸುಳ್ಳು, ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಕಲಹ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ನಾಚಿಕೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನೋ ಮನೋವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನೋ ಕಾಣುವುದು ಮೊದಲ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ.

Gambling addiction is a real illness, and treatment for it is available. If debts, lies and family quarrels are growing, the first step is to set shame aside and see a doctor or a psychiatrist.
