ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 2.38 ಅರ್ಥ: ಸುಖದುಃಖೇ ಸಮೇ ಕೃತ್ವಾ

ಗೀತೆಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸೂತ್ರ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ. ಮೂರು ಜೋಡಿಗಳು ಮೂರು ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ನೆಲೆಗಳಿಂದ ಬಂದಿವೆ: ಸುಖ ದುಃಖ ಎಂಬುದು ಒಳಗಿನ ಭಾವ, ಲಾಭ ನಷ್ಟ ಎಂಬುದು ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಗುವುದು, ಜಯ ಅಪಜಯ ಎಂಬುದು ಹೊರಗಿನ ತೀರ್ಪು.

The central formula of the Gita appears here for the first time. The three pairs come from three different levels: pleasure and pain is what is felt inside, gain and loss is what comes to hand, victory and defeat is the verdict from outside.

ಸಮತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಹರ್ಷ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಷಾದಗಳ ಅಭಾವ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇನ್ನೂ ನಿಖರವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಂಥ ಯಾವ ಫಲದ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪವೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ, ಕೇವಲ ‘ಇದು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ ಕೆಲಸ’ ಎಂಬ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸು.

Sridhara Swami gives the ground of that evenness as the absence of elation and dejection. Ramanujacharya is more precise still: begin the battle with no intention fixed on any fruit such as heaven, with the bare sense that this is the work to be done.

ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಒಂದು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮೂವತ್ತೊಂದರಿಂದ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗಿನ ಸ್ವಧರ್ಮ, ಕೀರ್ತಿ, ಸ್ವರ್ಗಗಳ ಮಾತು ಶೋಕವನ್ನು ನೀಗಿಸಲು ಹೇಳಿದ ಲೌಕಿಕ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಮಾತ್ರ, ಅದು ಪ್ರಾಸಂಗಿಕ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಗೀತೆಯ ನಿಜವಾದ ವಿಷಯ ಪರಮಾರ್ಥ ದರ್ಶನ, ಮತ್ತು ಅದು ಮುಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಿಂದ ಮತ್ತೆ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Shankaracharya adds an important note. The talk of one’s own duty, of fame and of heaven from verse 31 to here is worldly reasoning offered to remove grief, and he writes plainly that it is incidental. The real subject of the Gita is the seeing of the highest truth, and that resumes in the next verse.

ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬರಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಒಂದು ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪಾಠ. ಅದು ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಸಡಿಲ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಬದಲಿಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸಡಿಲ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

What is taught here is how to do a piece of work without needing it to turn out well. That does not loosen the work. It loosens the mind.

ಫಲಿತಾಂಶದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಣ್ಣಿಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡುವ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ನಡುಕ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದೇ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ‘ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದದ್ದು’ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಕೈ ಸ್ಥಿರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಮತ್ವ ಎಂಬುದು ಉದಾಸೀನವಲ್ಲ, ಅದೊಂದು ಸ್ಥಿರತೆ.

There is a tremor in work done with the eye on the result. The same work done with the sense that this is what has come to my share steadies the hand. Evenness is not indifference; it is steadiness.
