ಕ್ರೋಧಾದ್ಭವತಿ ಸಮ್ಮೋಹಃ ಸಮ್ಮೋಹಾತ್ಸ್ಮೃತಿವಿಭ್ರಮಃ।
ಸ್ಮೃತಿಭ್ರಂಶಾದ್ಬುದ್ಧಿನಾಶೋ ಬುದ್ಧಿನಾಶಾತ್ಪ್ರಣಶ್ಯತಿ ॥ 63 ॥

क्रोधाद्भवति सम्मोहः सम्मोहात्स्मृतिविभ्रमः।
स्मृतिभ्रंशाद्बुद्धिनाशो बुद्धिनाशात्प्रणश्यति ॥ 63 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಕ್ರೋಧಾತ್ (क्रोधात्, krodhāt) = ಕ್ರೋಧದಿಂದ (from anger)
- ಭವತಿ ಸಮ್ಮೋಹಃ (भवति सम्मोहः, bhavati sammohaḥ) = ಸಮ್ಮೋಹ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (comes confusion)
- ಸಮ್ಮೋಹಾತ್ (सम्मोहात्, sammohāt) = ಸಮ್ಮೋಹದಿಂದ (from confusion)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕ್ರೋಧದಿಂದ ಸಮ್ಮೋಹ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಸಮ್ಮೋಹದಿಂದ ನೆನಪು ಕಲಕುತ್ತದೆ, ನೆನಪು ತಪ್ಪಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಬುದ್ಧಿ ನಾಶವಾದಾಗ ಅವನು ಹಾಳಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
From anger comes confusion, from confusion the failing of memory, from the loss of memory the destruction of understanding, and when understanding is destroyed he is lost.

ಏಣಿಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅರ್ಧ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿತ ವೇಗವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದವನ್ನೂ ನಿಖರವಾಗಿ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸಮ್ಮೋಹ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ್ದು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಡಬಾರದ್ದರ ವಿವೇಕ ತಪ್ಪುವುದು. ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡವನು ಸಮ್ಮೂಢನಾಗಿ ಗುರುವನ್ನೂ ಬೈಯುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂಬ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಅವರು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸ್ಮೃತಿವಿಭ್ರಮ ಎಂದರೆ ಗುರುಗಳೂ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳೂ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ತಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾದ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲೇ ಅದು ಬಾರದಿರುವುದು. ಬುದ್ಧಿನಾಶ ಎಂದರೆ ಅಂತಃಕರಣ ವಿವೇಕಕ್ಕೆ ಅಯೋಗ್ಯವಾಗುವುದು.
Confusion is the loss of the sense of what should and should not be done. He gives the example that an angry man, being confused, abuses even his teacher. The failing of memory is that what teachers and scriptures had impressed does not come to mind at the moment it is needed. The destruction of understanding is the mind’s becoming unfit to discriminate.
ಕೊನೆಯ ಪದದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಮಾತು ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣವಾಗಿದೆ: ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುವುದು ಅವನ ಅಂತಃಕರಣ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ್ದನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಡಬಾರದ್ದನ್ನು ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸಬಲ್ಲಷ್ಟು ಕಾಲ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ‘ಸತ್ತವನಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ’ ಎಂದು ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಸಮ್ಮೋಹಕ್ಕೆ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಅಧರ್ಮದ ಇಚ್ಛೆ.
On the last word Shankaracharya is sharp: a man remains a man only so long as his mind can separate what must be done from what must not. Sridhara Swami puts it briefly: he becomes as good as dead. Madhvacharya gives confusion a specific sense: the desire for what is wrong.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಕೋಪದ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಮನ ಕಿರಿದಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಹೇಳಿದ ಮಾತುಗಳು, ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ ಸಂದೇಶಗಳು ಆಮೇಲೆ ನಮಗೇ ಅಪರಿಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತವೆ. ‘ನಾನು ಹಾಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದೆನೇ’ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯೇ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಸ್ಮೃತಿವಿಭ್ರಮ.
In the moment of anger attention narrows. The words said then, the messages sent then, look unfamiliar to us afterwards. Did I really say that is precisely the failing of memory of this verse.
ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ ಕೋಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸದೆ ಒಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಇಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ. ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಮರಳಿ ಬಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಬಹುತೇಕ ಸಂದೇಶಗಳು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಉಳಿದುಬಿಡುತ್ತವೆ.
That is why leaving an angry message unsent overnight is a good habit. By morning the understanding has come back, and most such messages simply stay where they are.
