ಅದೃಷ್ಟಪೂರ್ವಂ ಹೃಷಿತೋಽಸ್ಮಿ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಭಯೇನ ಚ ಪ್ರವ್ಯಥಿತಂ ಮನೋ ಮೇ।
ತದೇವ ಮೇ ದರ್ಶಯ ದೇವ ರೂಪಂ ಪ್ರಸೀದ ದೇವೇಶ ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ ॥ 45 ॥

अदृष्टपूर्वं हृषितोऽस्मि दृष्ट्वा भयेन च प्रव्यथितं मनो मे।
तदेव मे दर्शय देव रूपं प्रसीद देवेश जगन्निवास ॥ 45 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅದೃಷ್ಟಪೂರ್ವಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಹೃಷಿತಃ ಅಸ್ಮಿ (अदृष्टपूर्वं दृष्ट्वा हृषितः अस्मि, adṛṣṭapūrvaṃ dṛṣṭvā hṛṣitaḥ asmi) = ಹಿಂದೆ ಕಾಣದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಹರ್ಷಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ (I rejoice at seeing what was never seen before)
- ಭಯೇನ ಚ ಮೇ ಮನಃ ಪ್ರವ್ಯಥಿತಮ್ (भयेन च मे मनः प्रव्यथितम्, bhayena ca me manaḥ pravyathitam) = ಭಯದಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ತಲ್ಲಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ (and my mind is shaken with fear)
- ದೇವ ತತ್ ಏವ ರೂಪಂ ಮೇ ದರ್ಶಯ (देव तत् एव रूपं मे दर्शय, deva tat eva rūpaṃ me darśaya) = ದೇವ, ಆ ಹಿಂದಿನ ರೂಪವನ್ನೇ ನನಗೆ ತೋರಿಸು (O God, show me that same form)
- ದೇವೇಶ ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ ಪ್ರಸೀದ (देवेश जगन्निवास प्रसीद, deveśa jagannivāsa prasīda) = ದೇವೇಶನೇ, ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸನೇ, ಕರುಣಿಸು (O Lord of gods, abode of the world, be gracious)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹಿಂದೆ ಯಾರೂ ಕಾಣದ ಈ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಹರ್ಷಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಆದರೆ ಭಯದಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ತಲ್ಲಣಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ದೇವ, ಆ ಹಿಂದಿನ ರೂಪವನ್ನೇ ನನಗೆ ತೋರಿಸು. ದೇವೇಶ, ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ, ಕರುಣಿಸು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
I rejoice at seeing what was never seen before, yet my mind is shaken with fear. Show me that same form, O God. Be gracious, O Lord of gods, abode of the world.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 11.45ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 11.45
ಹರ್ಷ ಮತ್ತು ಭಯ ಒಂದೇ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಬೇಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅರ್ಜುನ ಈ ಎರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ: ನನ್ನ ಕಳವಳ ಹೋಗಲು ಆ ರೂಪವನ್ನೇ ತೋರಿಸು. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ತದೇವ ರೂಪಂ’ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ‘ಮತ್ಸಖಂ’, ನನ್ನ ಗೆಳೆಯನ ರೂಪ, ಎಂದು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Joy and fear in the same moment. According to Sridhara Swami, having asked forgiveness, Arjuna makes a prayer in these two verses: show me that same form, so that my distress may go. Shankara unfolds ‘that same form’ as ‘matsakham’, the form of my friend.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇದನ್ನು ‘ತವ ಸುಪ್ರಸನ್ನಂ ರೂಪಂ’, ನಿನ್ನ ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನವಾದ ರೂಪ, ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ‘ದೇವೇಶ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಮೊದಲಾದ ದೇವತೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಒಡೆಯ, ‘ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಆಶ್ರಯ. ವಿಶ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದ ಅರ್ಜುನ ಈಗ ಪರಿಚಿತ ರೂಪಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬೇಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Ramanuja calls it ‘tava suprasannam rupam’, your most gracious form. For him ‘Devesha’ means lord even of Brahma and the other gods, and ‘Jagannivasa’ the refuge of the whole world. Arjuna, who had asked for the cosmic form, now pleads for the familiar one. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಒಂದೇ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತೋಷ ಮತ್ತು ಭಯ ಎರಡೂ ಬರುವುದು ಸಹಜ. ಮಗುವಿನ ಹುಟ್ಟು, ದೊಡ್ಡ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ, ಹೊಸ ಊರು, ಇವು ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಎರಡು ಭಾವಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ತರುತ್ತವೆ.
It is natural for joy and fear to come in the same moment. The birth of a child, a big responsibility, a new town, all bring two feelings together like this.
ದೊಡ್ಡದನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಚಿತವಾದದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಮರಳುವ ಬಯಕೆ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯವಲ್ಲ. ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ ಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದರ ಸೂಚನೆ.
The wish to return to the familiar after seeing something vast is not weakness. It is a sign that the mind needs rest.
