ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ದಂಷ್ಟ್ರಾಕರಾಲಾನಿ ಚ ತೇ ಮುಖಾನಿ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವೈವ ಕಾಲಾನಲಸನ್ನಿಭಾನಿ।
ದಿಶೋ ನ ಜಾನೇ ನ ಲಭೇ ಚ ಶರ್ಮ ಪ್ರಸೀದ ದೇವೇಶ ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ ॥ 25 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
दंष्ट्राकरालानि च ते मुखानि दृष्ट्वैव कालानलसन्निभानि।
दिशो न जाने न लभे च शर्म प्रसीद देवेश जगन्निवास ॥ 25 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ದಂಷ್ಟ್ರಾಕರಾಲಾನಿ ಕಾಲಾನಲಸನ್ನಿಭಾನಿ (दंष्ट्राकरालानि कालानलसन्निभानि, daṃṣṭrākarālāni kālānalasannibhāni) = ಕೋರೆಹಲ್ಲುಗಳಿಂದ ಭಯಂಕರವಾದ, ಪ್ರಳಯಾಗ್ನಿಯಂತಿರುವ (dreadful with tusks, like the fire of dissolution)
- ತೇ ಮುಖಾನಿ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಏವ (ते मुखानि दृष्ट्वा एव, te mukhāni dṛṣṭvā eva) = ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಕೂಡಲೇ (the moment I see your mouths)
- ದಿಶಃ ನ ಜಾನೇ (दिशः न जाने, diśaḥ na jāne) = ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳೇ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ (I do not know the directions)
- ಶರ್ಮ ಚ ನ ಲಭೇ (शर्म च न लभे, śarma ca na labhe) = ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ (and I find no comfort)
- ದೇವೇಶ ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ ಪ್ರಸೀದ (देवेश जगन्निवास प्रसीद, deveśa jagannivāsa prasīda) = ದೇವೇಶನೇ, ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ನೆಲೆಯೇ, ಕರುಣಿಸು (O Lord of gods, abode of the world, be gracious)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕೋರೆಹಲ್ಲುಗಳಿಂದ ಭಯಂಕರವಾದ, ಪ್ರಳಯಾಗ್ನಿಯಂತಿರುವ ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಕೂಡಲೇ ನನಗೆ ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳೇ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ, ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ದೇವೇಶ, ಜಗನ್ನಿವಾಸ, ಕರುಣಿಸು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
The moment I see your mouths, dreadful with tusks, like the fire of dissolution, I lose all sense of direction and find no comfort. Be gracious, O Lord of gods, abode of the world.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 11.25ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 11.25
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ‘ಕಾಲಾನಲ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಪ್ರಳಯ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಡುವ ಅಗ್ನಿ. ‘ದಿಶೋ ನ ಜಾನೇ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಪೂರ್ವ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮದ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವೇ ತಿಳಿಯದ ದಿಗ್ಭ್ರಮೆ, ಅದರಿಂದಲೇ ಸುಖವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಭಯದ ಆವೇಶವೇ ಕಾರಣ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ‘ಪ್ರಸೀದ’ ಎಂಬ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಹೀಗೆ ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ನಾನು ಮತ್ತೆ ನನ್ನ ಸಹಜ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ಬರುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡು.
For Shankara ‘kalanala’ is the fire that burns the worlds at the time of dissolution. ‘I do not know the directions’ is a bewilderment in which even east and west cannot be told apart, and so there is no comfort either. Sridhara Swami says the rush of fear is the cause. Ramanuja unfolds the plea ‘be gracious’ like this: act so that I return to my natural state.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡೀ ದೃಶ್ಯದ ಉದ್ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಚಲನೆ ತನ್ನ ಅಧೀನ ಎಂದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಪಾರ್ಥಸಾರಥಿ, ತಾನೇ ಮಾಡಲಿರುವ ಭೂಭಾರದ ಇಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು, ಅಂದರೆ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಎರಡೂ ಕಡೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಅಸುರ ಅಂಶಗಳ ಸಂಹಾರವನ್ನು, ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದ. ಇನ್ನೂ ನಡೆಯದ ಆ ಸಂಹಾರವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಜುನ ದಿವ್ಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಮೊದಲೇ ಕಂಡ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Ramanuja states the purpose of the whole scene here. Partha’s charioteer, who was showing that the continuance and movement of the whole world depend on him, showed Arjuna the lightening of the earth’s burden that he himself would bring about, that is, the destruction of the asuric portions that had taken their place on both sides of the war. With the divine eye Arjuna saw in advance that destruction which had not yet happened. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
‘ದಿಕ್ಕೇ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂಬುದು ತೀವ್ರ ಭಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಅನುಭವ. ಆದರೆ ಹಿರಿಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಮ್ಮೆಲೇ ಗೊಂದಲ, ಸ್ಥಳ ಸಮಯ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗದಿರುವುದು ಕಾಣಿಸಿದರೆ ಅದು ಸೋಂಕು, ಔಷಧದ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳಿಂದ ಬರುವ ತುರ್ತು ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಆಗಿರಬಹುದು. ತಕ್ಷಣ ವೈದ್ಯರನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬೇಕು.
‘I do not know the directions’ is an experience that comes with intense fear. But if sudden confusion, not knowing the place or the time, appears in an elderly person, it may be an emergency caused by an infection, the effect of a medicine and the like. A doctor should be seen at once.
ದಿಕ್ಕು ತಪ್ಪಿದಾಗ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಮೊದಲ ಮಾತು ‘ಪ್ರಸೀದ’, ಕರುಣಿಸು. ದಾರಿ ಕಾಣದಾಗ ಸಹಾಯ ಕೇಳುವುದು ಸೋಲಲ್ಲ, ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತಿಕೆ.
When he loses his bearings, Arjuna’s first word is ‘prasida’, be gracious. Asking for help when the way cannot be seen is not defeat, it is wisdom.
