ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ನ ವೇದಯಜ್ಞಾಧ್ಯಯನೈರ್ನ ದಾನೈರ್ನ ಚ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಭಿರ್ನ ತಪೋಭಿರುಗ್ರೈಃ।
ಏವಂರೂಪಃ ಶಕ್ಯ ಅಹಂ ನೃಲೋಕೇ ದ್ರಷ್ಟುಂ ತ್ವದನ್ಯೇನ ಕುರುಪ್ರವೀರ ॥ 48 ॥

न वेदयज्ञाध्ययनैर्न दानैर्न च क्रियाभिर्न तपोभिरुग्रैः।
एवंरूपः शक्य अहं नृलोके द्रष्टुं त्वदन्येन कुरुप्रवीर ॥ 48 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ನ ವೇದಯಜ್ಞಾಧ್ಯಯನೈಃ ನ ದಾನೈಃ (न वेदयज्ञाध्ययनैः न दानैः, na vedayajñādhyayanaiḥ na dānaiḥ) = ವೇದಾಧ್ಯಯನದಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಯಜ್ಞವಿದ್ಯೆಯಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ದಾನಗಳಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲ (not by study of the Vedas and of sacrifice, not by gifts)
- ನ ಚ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಭಿಃ ನ ಉಗ್ರೈಃ ತಪೋಭಿಃ (न च क्रियाभिः न उग्रैः तपोभिः, na ca kriyābhiḥ na ugraiḥ tapobhiḥ) = ಕರ್ಮಾನುಷ್ಠಾನಗಳಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಉಗ್ರ ತಪಸ್ಸುಗಳಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲ (nor by rites, nor by fierce austerities)

ಕುರುವೀರಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ, ವೇದಾಧ್ಯಯನದಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಯಜ್ಞವಿದ್ಯೆಯಿಂದಾಗಲಿ, ದಾನಗಳಿಂದಾಗಲಿ, ಕರ್ಮಾನುಷ್ಠಾನಗಳಿಂದಾಗಲಿ, ಉಗ್ರ ತಪಸ್ಸುಗಳಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಈ ರೂಪದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೊರತು ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರೂ ಕಾಣಲಾರರು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Not by study of the Vedas and of sacrifice, not by gifts, nor by rites, nor by fierce austerities, can I be seen in this form in the world of men by anyone but you, O foremost hero of the Kurus.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 11.48ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 11.48
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಾಧನಕ್ಕೂ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ನಾಲ್ಕು ವೇದಗಳ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ತುಲಾಪುರುಷ ಮೊದಲಾದ ದಾನಗಳು, ಅಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಕರ್ಮಗಳು, ಚಾಂದ್ರಾಯಣ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಉಗ್ರ ತಪಸ್ಸುಗಳು. ವೇದಾಧ್ಯಯನದಲ್ಲೇ ಯಜ್ಞಗಳ ಅಧ್ಯಯನವೂ ಸೇರಿರುವಾಗ ‘ಯಜ್ಞಾಧ್ಯಯನ’ವನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ಯಜ್ಞವಿಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸಲು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅದು ಕಲ್ಪಸೂತ್ರ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಯಜ್ಞವಿದ್ಯೆಗಳು.
Shankara gives an example for each means: study of the four Vedas, gifts such as the tulapurusha, rites such as the agnihotra, fierce austerities such as the chandrayana. Since the study of sacrifice is already included in the study of the Vedas, he says, ‘yajnadhyayana’ is named separately to indicate the science of sacrifice. For Sridhara Swami it means the sciences of sacrifice such as the kalpasutras.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಕೇವಲ’ ಪದವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಏಕಾಂತ, ಆತ್ಯಂತಿಕ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದವರು ಕೇವಲ ವೇದ, ಯಜ್ಞ ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾಣಲಾರರು. ಅಂದರೆ ಈ ಸಾಧನಗಳು ತಪ್ಪಲ್ಲ, ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಅವು ಸಾಲದು. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದನ್ನು ‘ನೀನು ಧನ್ಯ’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಾಗಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಇಷ್ಟು ದುರ್ಲಭವಾದ ದರ್ಶನ ಪಡೆದ ನೀನು ಕೃತಾರ್ಥ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Ramanuja reads it with the word ‘alone’: those without single-minded, complete devotion cannot see it by the Vedas, sacrifice and the rest alone. That is, these means are not wrong, but without devotion they are not enough. Sridhara Swami sees this as the words ‘you are blessed’: you who have gained so rare a vision have fulfilled your life’s purpose. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಜೀವನದ ಅತ್ಯಮೂಲ್ಯ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಹಣದಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಪದವಿಯಿಂದಾಗಲಿ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ರೋಗಿಯ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಪದವಿಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಆರೈಕೆಯಿಂದ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
The most precious things in life come neither from money nor from degrees. A patient’s trust does not come from a list of qualifications, it comes from care.
ಓದು, ದಾನ, ವ್ರತ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವೇ. ಅವುಗಳ ಒಳಗೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಇದ್ದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅವು ಗುರಿ ತಲುಪುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬುದು ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಅರ್ಥದ ಸಾರ.
Study, charity and vows are all good. The gist of Ramanuja’s reading is that they reach the goal only when there is love within them.
