ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯಥಾ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ತಂ ಜ್ವಲನಂ ಪತಂಗಾ ವಿಶಂತಿ ನಾಶಾಯ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವೇಗಾಃ।
ತಥೈವ ನಾಶಾಯ ವಿಶಂತಿ ಲೋಕಾಸ್ತವಾಪಿ ವಕ್ತ್ರಾಣಿ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವೇಗಾಃ ॥ 29 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
यथा प्रदीप्तं ज्वलनं पतङ्गा विशन्ति नाशाय समृद्धवेगाः।
तथैव नाशाय विशन्ति लोकास्तवापि वक्त्राणि समृद्धवेगाः ॥ 29 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
yathā pradīptaṃ jvalanaṃ pataṅgā viśanti nāśāya samṛddhavegāḥ|
tathaiva nāśāya viśanti lokāstavāpi vaktrāṇi samṛddhavegāḥ || 29 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯಥಾ ಪತಂಗಾಃ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವೇಗಾಃ (यथा पतङ्गाः समृद्धवेगाः, yathā pataṅgāḥ samṛddhavegāḥ) = ಪತಂಗಗಳು ತೀವ್ರ ವೇಗದಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ (just as moths at full speed)
- ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ತಂ ಜ್ವಲನಂ ನಾಶಾಯ ವಿಶಂತಿ (प्रदीप्तं ज्वलनं नाशाय विशन्ति, pradīptaṃ jvalanaṃ nāśāya viśanti) = ಉರಿಯುವ ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ನಾಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತವೆಯೋ (enter a blazing fire to their destruction)
- ತಥಾ ಏವ ಲೋಕಾಃ ಅಪಿ ಸಮೃದ್ಧವೇಗಾಃ (तथा एव लोकाः अपि समृद्धवेगाः, tathā eva lokāḥ api samṛddhavegāḥ) = ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಈ ಜನರೂ ತೀವ್ರ ವೇಗದಿಂದ (so too these people, at full speed)
- ನಾಶಾಯ ತವ ವಕ್ತ್ರಾಣಿ ವಿಶಂತಿ (नाशाय तव वक्त्राणि विशन्ति, nāśāya tava vaktrāṇi viśanti) = ನಾಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ (enter your mouths to their destruction)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಪತಂಗಗಳು ತೀವ್ರ ವೇಗದಿಂದ ಉರಿಯುವ ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ನಾಶವಾಗುವಂತೆ, ಈ ಜನರೂ ತೀವ್ರ ವೇಗದಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ನಾಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Just as moths rush at full speed into a blazing fire to their destruction, so too these people rush at full speed into your mouths to their own destruction.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 11.29ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 11.29
ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನದಿ ಸಮುದ್ರ ಸೇರುವುದು ಅದರ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಲ್ಲ, ಪತಂಗ ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಬೀಳುವುದು ‘ಬುದ್ಧಿಪೂರ್ವಕ’, ತಿಳಿದೇ. ಅವರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದವರಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಬಗೆಯವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ: ಕೆಲವರು ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶದ ಸೆಳೆತದಿಂದ, ಕೆಲವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹಟದಿಂದ.
Sridhara Swami’s distinction is completed here. The river joining the ocean is not its choice, while the moth falls into the fire ‘buddhipurvaka’, knowingly. According to him both kinds are among those who came to the war: some drawn by the pull of circumstance, some by their own stubbornness.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಸಮೃದ್ಧವೇಗ’ಕ್ಕೆ ಉಕ್ಕಿದ ವೇಗವುಳ್ಳವರು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಈ ಎರಡು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ‘ಸ್ವಯಮೇವ’, ತಾವಾಗಿಯೇ, ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಒತ್ತು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪತಂಗದ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಈ ಅರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Shankara gives ‘samriddhavega’ the sense of those whose speed has surged. Ramanuja takes these two verses together and stresses the word ‘svayam eva’, of their own accord. The image of the moth fits this sense fully. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಗೊತ್ತಿದ್ದೂ ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಬೀಳುವ ಪತಂಗ ಅನೇಕ ಚಟಗಳ ಚಿತ್ರ. ಧೂಮಪಾನ, ಮದ್ಯ, ಜೂಜು ಹಾನಿಕರ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದಿದ್ದರೂ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಅತ್ತ ಓಡುತ್ತದೆ.
The moth that falls into the fire knowingly is a picture of many addictions. Though we know that smoking, drink and gambling are harmful, the mind runs towards them again and again.
ಇದು ಬರೀ ಇಚ್ಛಾಶಕ್ತಿಯ ಕೊರತೆಯಲ್ಲ, ಮೆದುಳಿನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯೂ ಹೌದು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ. ನಾಚಿಕೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ವೈದ್ಯರ ನೆರವು ಪಡೆಯುವುದು ಬೆಂಕಿಯಿಂದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಸರಿಯುವ ಮೊದಲ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ.
This is not merely a lack of willpower, it is also a change in the brain. Effective treatment for it is available. Setting shame aside and seeking a doctor’s help is the first step back from the fire.
