ಕಚ್ಚಿನ್ನೋಭಯವಿಭ್ರಷ್ಟಶ್ಛಿನ್ನಾಭ್ರಮಿವ ನಶ್ಯತಿ।

कच्चिन्नोभयविभ्रष्टश्छिन्नाभ्रमिव नश्यति।
अप्रतिष्ठो महाबाहो विमूढो ब्रह्मणः पथि ॥ 38 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಮಹಾಬಾಹೋ (महाबाहो, mahābāho) = ಮಹಾಬಾಹುವೇ (O mighty-armed one)
- ಉಭಯವಿಭ್ರಷ್ಟಃ (उभयविभ्रष्टः, ubhayavibhraṣṭaḥ) = ಎರಡರಿಂದಲೂ ಜಾರಿದವನು (fallen from both)
- ಅಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಃ (अप्रतिष्ठः, apratiṣṭhaḥ) = ಆಧಾರವಿಲ್ಲದವನು (without support)
- ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣಃ ಪಥಿ ವಿಮೂಢಃ (ब्रह्मणः पथि विमूढः, brahmaṇaḥ pathi vimūḍhaḥ) = ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪಿದವನು (bewildered on the path to Brahman)

ಶ್ಲೋಕ 6.38ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 6.38
ಹರಿದ ಮೋಡದ ಉಪಮೆ ಬಹಳ ಚಿತ್ರಕ. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಅದನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮೋಡದಿಂದ ಹರಿದ ಒಂದು ತುಂಡು ಮುಂದಿನ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮೋಡವನ್ನು ಸೇರದೆ ನಡುವೆಯೇ ಕರಗಿಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ಮಳೆಯೂ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಮೋಡವಾಗಿಯೂ ಉಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
The image of the torn cloud is vivid. Ramanuja spells it out: a fragment torn from a great cloud fails to join the next great cloud and dissolves midway. It neither becomes rain nor remains a cloud.
‘ಎರಡರಿಂದಲೂ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಯಾವ ಎರಡು? ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಕರ್ಮಮಾರ್ಗ ಮತ್ತು ಯೋಗಮಾರ್ಗ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಕರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಈಶ್ವರನಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅಥವಾ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಂಥ ಕರ್ಮಫಲ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಯೋಗ ಸಿದ್ಧಿಸದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮೋಕ್ಷವೂ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
‘Fallen from both’: which two? For Shankara, the path of works and the path of yoga. Sridhara Swami makes it plain: because he offered his actions to the Lord or gave them up, he does not get the fruit of action such as heaven; because his yoga did not succeed, he does not get liberation either.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಅಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠ’ಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಖರ ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಫಲದ ಬಯಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕರ್ಮ ಸ್ವರ್ಗ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಫಲಕ್ಕೆ ಆಧಾರವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಆ ನೆಲೆಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಅವನು ಜಾರಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ಅವನು ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆಯೇ, ಇಲ್ಲವೇ?
Ramanuja gives ‘without support’ an exact sense: action done without desire for its fruit does not become the basis for heaven and the like, so he has no footing there. And he has slipped on the path to Brahman as well. So does he perish, or not?

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಹಳೆಯ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊಸದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟವರು ಅರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಈ ಭಯವನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಳೆಯದು ಕೈಬಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ, ಹೊಸದು ಇನ್ನೂ ಕೈಗೆ ಬಂದಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಮಧ್ಯದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಬಹಳ ಏಕಾಂಗಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
Those who leave an old life and set out for a new one feel this fear when they get stuck halfway. The old has slipped from their hands, the new is not yet in them. This in-between state is very lonely.
ಆದರೆ ಮೋಡದ ಉಪಮೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಒಂದು ಸತ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಕರಗಿದ ಮೋಡದ ನೀರು ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಉಳಿದು ಮುಂದೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಮೋಡವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಉತ್ತರವೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚುಕಡಿಮೆ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಇದೆ.
But there is a truth in the image of the cloud itself. The water of a dissolved cloud goes nowhere; it stays in the air and later becomes another cloud. Krishna’s answer is much the same.
