ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 6.40 ಅರ್ಥ: ಪಾರ್ಥ ನೈವೇಹ ನಾಮುತ್ರ

ಗೀತೆಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಮಾಧಾನದ ಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಒಂದು. ‘ತಾತ’ ಎಂಬ ಸಂಬೋಧನೆ ಇಡೀ ಗೀತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದನ್ನು ಲೋಕದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುದ್ದಿನಿಂದ ಕರೆಯುವುದು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.

These are among the most comforting words in the Gita. The address ‘tata’, my dear, occurs only here in the whole Gita. Sridhara Swami calls it an affectionate address in the manner of the world.

ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಈ ಪದದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಮಗನ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸುವವನು ತಂದೆ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ತಂದೆಗೆ ‘ತಾತ’. ತಂದೆಯೇ ಮಗನಾಗುವುದರಿಂದ ಮಗನಿಗೂ ‘ತಾತ’, ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಷ್ಯನೂ ಮಗನಂತೆಯೇ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ‘ನಾಶ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಹಿಂದಿಗಿಂತ ಕೀಳಾದ ಜನ್ಮ ಪಡೆಯುವುದು, ಯೋಗಭ್ರಷ್ಟನಿಗೆ ಅದು ಇಲ್ಲ.

Shankara opens the word: a father is one who extends himself in the form of a son, so a father is called ‘tata’. Since the father becomes the son, the son too is ‘tata’, and a disciple is like a son. The ‘destruction’ here means being born in a lower state than before, and that does not befall one who has fallen from yoga.

ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ನಾಶ’ಕ್ಕೆ ಎರಡು ಅರ್ಥ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ತಳ್ಳಿಹಾಕುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಬಯಸಿದ್ದು ಸಿಗದಿರುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಬಯಸದ್ದು ಸಿಗುವುದು. ಲೋಕದ ಸುಖದಲ್ಲಾಗಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾನುಭವದಲ್ಲಾಗಲಿ ಇವೆರಡೂ ಅವನಿಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ‘ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಶ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಎರಡೂ ಕೈಬಿಟ್ಟು ಪತಿತನಾಗುವುದು, ‘ಪರಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಶ’ ಎಂದರೆ ನರಕ, ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಶುರುಮಾಡಿದವನಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲಪಾಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲ.

Ramanuja gives ‘destruction’ two senses and rules out both: not getting what one wished for, and getting what one did not wish for. Neither befalls him, whether in the joys of the world or in the experience of Brahman. For Sridhara Swami ‘destruction here’ means falling away, having lost both, and ‘destruction hereafter’ means hell; neither befalls one who began with faith. Our source text has no comment by Madhva on this verse.

ಸಿಗರೇಟು ಬಿಡಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವ ಅನೇಕರು ಹಲವು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳ ನಂತರವೇ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವೂ ಏನನ್ನೋ ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ: ಯಾವ ಸಮಯ ಕಷ್ಟ, ಯಾವ ಜಾಗ ಅಪಾಯ, ಯಾರ ನೆರವು ಬೇಕು. ಮತ್ತೆ ಸೋತದ್ದು ಸೊನ್ನೆಗೆ ಮರಳಿದ್ದಲ್ಲ.

Many people trying to give up smoking succeed only after several attempts. Each attempt teaches something: which times are hard, which places are risky, whose help is needed. Slipping again is not a return to zero.

‘ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ಯಾರೂ ದುರ್ಗತಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ’ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಅರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗದಿರಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಅದು ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

‘No one who does good comes to a bad end’ honours every effort that stopped halfway. The effort may not be completed, but it is not wasted.
