Context and commentary on verse 6.41
Krishna’s answer to Arjuna comes within the frame of rebirth. Inside that belief its logic is clear: yoga begun in faith is not wasted; it flows on into the next life. We have given the verse’s meaning within its own frame.
Shankara calls the ‘worlds of the righteous’ the worlds reached by those who performed sacrifices such as the ashvamedha. ‘Pure’ means those who act as scripture enjoins, ‘prosperous’ those with wealth and standing. Sridhara Swami takes the pure as those of good conduct and the prosperous as the wealthy.
Ramanuja sees a subtle psychology here. Whatever kind of pleasure he longed for when he slipped from yoga, he enjoys the finest of that very kind, by the power of yoga itself, until that thirst is spent. Then, grown indifferent to it, he is born in a family fit for beginning yoga.

Readers may hold different beliefs about rebirth. But one point of this verse applies to this life too: a good effort rightly begun stays in the mind as a seed.
Ramanuja’s point is even more human. The desire that led us astray sometimes loosens only after it has been fully lived through. Then the old path comes into view again.
