ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಥವಾ ಯೋಗಿನಾಮೇವ ಕುಲೇ ಭವತಿ ಧೀಮತಾಮ್।
ಏತದ್ಧಿ ದುರ್ಲಭತರಂ ಲೋಕೇ ಜನ್ಮ ಯದೀದೃಶಮ್ ॥ 42 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
अथवा योगिनामेव कुले भवति धीमताम्।
एतद्धि दुर्लभतरं लोके जन्म यदीदृशम् ॥ 42 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
athavā yogināmeva kule bhavati dhīmatām|
etaddhi durlabhataraṃ loke janma yadīdṛśam || 42 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅಥವಾ (अथवा, athavā) = ಅಥವಾ (or else)
- ಧೀಮತಾಮ್ ಯೋಗಿನಾಮ್ ಏವ ಕುಲೇ ಭವತಿ (धीमताम् योगिनाम् एव कुले भवति, dhīmatām yoginām eva kule bhavati) = ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತರಾದ ಯೋಗಿಗಳ ಕುಲದಲ್ಲೇ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾನೆ (he is born in a family of wise yogis)
- ಈದೃಶಮ್ ಯತ್ ಜನ್ಮ (ईदृशम् यत् जन्म, īdṛśam yat janma) = ಇಂಥ ಜನ್ಮ (such a birth)
- ಏತತ್ ಹಿ ಲೋಕೇ ದುರ್ಲಭತರಮ್ (एतत् हि लोके दुर्लभतरम्, etat hi loke durlabhataram) = ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಇನ್ನೂ ದುರ್ಲಭ (is rarer still in this world)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಥವಾ ಅವನು ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತರಾದ ಯೋಗಿಗಳ ಕುಲದಲ್ಲೇ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇಂಥ ಜನ್ಮ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ದುರ್ಲಭ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Or else he is born in a family of wise yogis. Such a birth is rarer still in this world.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 6.42ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 6.42
ಎರಡು ದಾರಿಗಳು: ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಶುದ್ಧ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರ ಮನೆ, ಅಥವಾ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಯೋಗಿಗಳ ಕುಲ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇವುಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಒಂದು ಭೇದ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಾಲ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡಿ ಜಾರಿದವನಿಗೆ ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು, ಬಹುಕಾಲ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡಿ ಜಾರಿದವನಿಗೆ ಎರಡನೆಯದು. ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರೂ ಪಕ್ವ ಯೋಗಿ ಜಾರಿದರೆ ಯೋಗ ಉಪದೇಶಿಸುವ ಯೋಗಿಗಳ ಕುಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Two ways: the home of the pure and prosperous in the last verse, or the family of yogis in this one. Sridhara Swami sees a difference between them: the first for one who practised a short while and slipped, the second for one who practised long and slipped. Ramanuja too says that if a ripe yogi slips, he is born in a family of yogis who themselves teach yoga.
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ಒಂದು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ವಿವರ ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಯೋಗಿಗಳ ಕುಲ ‘ದರಿದ್ರ’ರ ಕುಲ, ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರದಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೂ ಅದು ‘ಇನ್ನೂ ದುರ್ಲಭ’. ಸಂಪತ್ತಿಗಿಂತ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ವಾತಾವರಣವೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅಪರೂಪ ಎಂಬ ಸೂಚನೆ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
Shankara adds a notable detail: the family of yogis here is a family of the poor, not the wealthy. Yet it is ‘rarer still’. There is a hint in this that an atmosphere of wisdom is rarer than wealth.
ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಈ ಜನ್ಮ ದುರ್ಲಭ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಮೋಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲಪಾಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Sridhara Swami says such a birth is rare because it leads directly to liberation. Our source text has no comment by Madhva on this verse.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ. ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಹಣಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಆಸ್ತಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು, ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳುವ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮಾದರಿಗಳು ಇರುವ ಮನೆ. ಅಂಥ ಮನೆ ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನ ಮನೆಗಿಂತ ಅಪರೂಪ.
Shankara’s note still makes sense today. A greater inheritance for children than money is a home with books, freedom to ask questions, and good examples. Such a home is rarer than a wealthy one.
ಆದರೆ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹುಟ್ಟಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಇಡಲು ಅಲ್ಲ. ಅದರ ಆಶಯ ಒಂದೇ: ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಕಳೆದುಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಅದು ತನಗೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಮಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.
But this verse is not meant to rank anyone high or low by birth. Its intent is one thing: effort is not lost; it finds the soil that suits it.
