Context and commentary on verse 1.2
Dhritarashtra asked what both sides did. Sanjaya’s answer begins with Duryodhana. Madhusudana Saraswati reads the small word tu, but, as marking a contrast. On the Pandava side there is no trace of fear. But the one who was shaken the moment he saw the opposing army was Duryodhana.
Drona taught archery to both the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Duryodhana did not send for him. He went to Drona himself. It looks like respect for a teacher, but many commentators see fear hidden behind it. Sanjaya calls him raja, the king, here, and the word is said to carry a hint that a man practised in statecraft does not let his anxiety show.

For life today
When the mind is shaken, whom do we usually go to? To someone we hope will reassure us. What we go there for is less advice than one sentence: nothing will happen.
Duryodhana does not have the courage to name his fear. So he goes to his teacher and talks, and keeps on talking. The verses that follow are the evidence.
