Context and commentary on verse 18.49
The acharyas give ‘naishkarmyasiddhi’ different senses. According to Shankara it is an understanding unattached to the causes of clinging such as children and wife, freedom from thirst for body, life and enjoyments, the renunciation that comes from self-knowledge, and through it a state in which there is no action at all. Sridhara Swami calls the ‘jitatman’ one without ego.
Ramanuja’s reading differs: one who, by contemplating the Supreme Person as the doer, has no craving for his own agency, attains the supreme steadfastness of meditation while still acting, with the renunciation determined to be no different from relinquishment, and this is the fruit of jnana yoga too. For Madhva ‘naishkarmyasiddhi’ is the perfection of yoga whose fruit is freedom from action.

‘Asakta’ does not mean uncaring. Loosening the urge to control loved ones while still loving them makes relationships healthier.
‘Vigataspriha’, free from craving. When the pressure of ‘I need more’ eases, the ability to find contentment in what one has grows.
