ಶ್ರದ್ಧಾವಾನನಸೂಯಶ್ಚ ಶೃಣುಯಾದಪಿ ಯೋ ನರಃ।
ಸೋಽಪಿ ಮುಕ್ತಃ ಶುಭಾಁಲ್ಲೋಕಾನ್ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನುಯಾತ್ಪುಣ್ಯಕರ್ಮಣಾಮ್ ॥ 71 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
श्रद्धावाननसूयश्च शृणुयादपि यो नरः।
सोऽपि मुक्तः शुभाँल्लोकान्प्राप्नुयात्पुण्यकर्मणाम् ॥ 71 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (English IAST)
śraddhāvānanasūyaśca śṛṇuyādapi yo naraḥ|
so’pi muktaḥ śubhām̐llokānprāpnuyātpuṇyakarmaṇām || 71 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಶ್ರದ್ಧಾವಾನ್ ಅನಸೂಯಃ ಚ (श्रद्धावान् अनसूयः च, śraddhāvān anasūyaḥ ca) = ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯುಳ್ಳ, ಅಸೂಯೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ (full of faith and free of envy)
- ಯಃ ನರಃ ಶೃಣುಯಾತ್ ಅಪಿ (यः नरः शृणुयात् अपि, yaḥ naraḥ śṛṇuyāt api) = ಯಾವ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಕೇಳಿದರೂ (whoever merely listens)
- ಸಃ ಅಪಿ ಮುಕ್ತಃ (सः अपि मुक्तः, saḥ api muktaḥ) = ಅವನೂ ಪಾಪದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತನಾಗಿ (he too, set free)
- ಪುಣ್ಯಕರ್ಮಣಾಂ ಶುಭಾನ್ ಲೋಕಾನ್ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನುಯಾತ್ (पुण्यकर्मणां शुभान् लोकान् प्राप्नुयात्, puṇyakarmaṇāṃ śubhān lokān prāpnuyāt) = ಪುಣ್ಯವಂತರ ಶುಭ ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇರುವನು (shall reach the auspicious worlds of the righteous)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯುಳ್ಳ, ಅಸೂಯೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಯಾವ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಇದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರೂ ಸಾಕು, ಅವನೂ ಪಾಪದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತನಾಗಿ ಪುಣ್ಯವಂತರ ಶುಭ ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇರುವನು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Whoever, full of faith and free of envy, merely listens to this, he too, set free, shall reach the auspicious worlds of the righteous.

ಓದಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೂ ಬಾಗಿಲು ತೆರೆದಿದೆ: ಕೇಳುವುದೇ ಸಾಕು. ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು ‘ಅಪಿ’ ಪದದ ಬಲವನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ: ಕೇವಲ ಕೇಳುವವನಿಗೇ ಈ ಫಲವಾದರೆ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದವನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕೇ. ‘ಪುಣ್ಯಕರ್ಮಿಗಳು’ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅಗ್ನಿಹೋತ್ರಾದಿ ಕರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದವರು.
The door is open even to those who cannot read: listening is enough. Shankara notes the force of ‘api’, even: if this is the fruit for one who merely listens, what need to speak of one who knows the meaning? For him ‘the righteous’ are those who have performed rites such as the agnihotra.
ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಕೇಳುವುದರಿಂದಲೇ ಭಕ್ತಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾದ ಪಾಪಗಳಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತನಾಗಿ ‘ಪುಣ್ಯಕರ್ಮಿಗಳಾದ ನನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತರ’ ಸಮೂಹವನ್ನು ಸೇರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇದನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರು ಪಠಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವವನಿಗೆ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ, ‘ಏಕೆ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಪಠಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಪಠಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ’ ಎಂದು ದೋಷ ಹುಡುಕದೆ ಕೇಳುವವನು ‘ಅನಸೂಯ’. ಮಧ್ವಾಚಾರ್ಯರ ವಿವರಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೂಲ ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲ.
According to Ramanuja, by listening alone one is freed from the sins that oppose devotion and joins the company of ‘my devotees, the righteous’. Sridhara Swami applies it to one who hears another recite, and calls ‘anasuya’ one who listens without finding fault, without thinking ‘why does he recite so loudly, why does he recite it wrongly’. Madhva’s comment on this verse is not in our source text.

ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ತೊಂದರೆಯಿರುವ ಹಿರಿಯರಿಗೆ, ಓದಲು ಬಾರದವರಿಗೆ ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಓದಿ ಹೇಳುವುದು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಭರವಸೆಯನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿಸುವ ಸೇವೆ.
Reading the Gita aloud to elders with poor eyesight, or to those who cannot read, is a service that carries the promise of this verse to them.
ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ‘ತಪ್ಪು ಹುಡುಕದೆ ಕೇಳು’ ಮಾತು ಎಲ್ಲ ಕೇಳುವಿಕೆಗೂ ಪಾಠ. ಉಚ್ಚಾರಣೆಯ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಭಾವ ಮುಖ್ಯ.
Sridhara Swami’s ‘listen without finding fault’ is a lesson for all listening. Feeling matters more than mistakes of pronunciation.
