Context and commentary on verse 18.78
The last verse of the Gita, Sanjaya’s conviction. Sridhara Swami states its purpose plainly: Dhritarashtra, give up your hope of the kingdom for your sons. According to Shankara Krishna is ‘yogeshvara’ because the seed of all yogas arises from him, and ‘bhuti’ is the special expansion of fortune.
According to Ramanuja ‘yogeshvara’ means the master of the natures of all things, conscious and non-conscious, high and low, whose form, existence and activity all depend on his will. Madhva closes his commentary on the Gita at this verse with verses of blessing: relying on the Gita of Mahavishnu, full and free of fault, I have given a small exposition, may the Lord be ever pleased by it.

For life today
Where wisdom and action come together, there is success: Krishna, lord of yoga, is the discernment that shows the way, Arjuna the archer is the effort. Neither is complete without the other.
The Gita ends here, but its reading does not. ‘Dhruva nitih’, sure right conduct, grows slowly in the choices of every day.
