O Mother, you bring good fortune to all who bow to you. Long ago Hari (Vishnu) worshipped you and, taking the form of a woman (Mohini), was able to stir even Shiva, the destroyer of the three cities (Tripura) and the enemy of Kama. Smara (Kama, the god of love) also bowed to you, and gained a body so beautiful that it is nectar to the eyes of his wife Rati. With it he can unsettle the minds even of great sages. Such powers are only gifts of your grace.

These details are not part of the original Saundarya Lahari, as we wish to state clearly at the outset. Associating each verse with a specific yantra, a seed syllable (bija mantra), a required chanting count (japa count), and a resulting benefit is a practice that evolved in later centuries. Furthermore, these technical details vary slightly from one text to another. This compilation represents a record of a traditional practice rather than any form of medical advice.
